There was a thread by someone asking how well the 1.7x B300 teleconverter worked on the E10.. Well in a bit of spare time in work, I prepared these shots to show how it does..

Full Wide - the "Bogroll" effect

Full Tele....... Corner masking

And in use in bright light -- Less noticable

The conclusion is that given plenty of light, the effect is minimalized but really I would NOT recommend buying this converter especially for use with the E10/20 - If you have anoother camera which is ideally suited to the B300 (the E100RS and Uzi are ideal) then it's DEFINATELY worth spending the £8 or so on the adapter rings so it can be used on the E10 as well - for birding etc, it should be fine as you just crop the bird out of the middle..

Build quality lies somewhere between the TCON14 and the TCON14B, it's plastic (or carbon fibre) bodied with a good metal thread to the camera, there is NO thread on the end for filters and weight is less than the 14B -- Optical Quality is as good or better than the 14B and despite the vignetting, it doesn't seem to lose much light.. it comes in the usual nice carry bag and is fitted with the usual Cr@ppy fall off lens caps.

One cool thing for E/Uzi owners is that it has IS / L lens written on it - Of course in this case it doesn't mean "Image stabilized" LOL..

In the UK they are half the price of the 1.4X TCON 14B

Hope this was of help..

Thanks for the post - I used the B300 a lot with my D600L (1400L in the UK , I believe), less so in subsequent models and nearly not at all with the UZI. Recently I gave it a test at the end of the TCON 300 (Yup! 714mm) attached to the E10. Unfortunately, while trying to develop a reliable focusing routine the tripod gave out - couldn't hold that weight. I wasn't about to go out in the field with one of our view camera tripods as my partner suggested so I'll have to wait until I can test out a reasonable tripod AND get the chance to back out to the country (we're NYC based). You need a lot of distance to test something like that. I let you know how I fare but from my abortive attempts I didn't notice any vignetting at full zoom - perhaps the TCON 300 has already narrowed the view (49mm end threads) so it's a more appropriate combo ?

Regards,
Kurt

Yep, you're right there! - I can't imagine why you don't use it on the Uzi though! - 17X IS zoom is very appealing - 646mm handholdable - I would be tempted to try the Uzi + TCON300 + B300 = 1938mm!! - Equivalent to nearly a 2-metre lens in 35mm terms Hehehe.. if you can find a way of interfacing the Uzi to the TCON that is ;-)

Don't think for a second that I didn't try :-). I need a sturdier tripod and some sand bags though. Truthfully the IS doesn't help very much when you put the B300 in front of the UZI - it really isn't hand holdable (for me). I put a decent effort into linking the TCON300 to the UZI but I'm afraid I'll have to take some time out to design a mount and then have it machined. I also tried the Sony 707 - closer but still need a better mounting system. It'll take some time which I don't have a lot of lately but I'm definitely a big glass fan and will be working on it.

LOL - I can't wait to see the outcome! - Digiscoping using standard Oly Glass ;-)

I've yet to find this out - Sheesh that Ezi is taking it's time being repaired!..

Well we'll look forward to the results! Hehe
