Yes, yes, yes....I'm on the d60 waiting list - in fact I've paid in advance at a local shop. (I never buy anything substantial from them because they are so much more expensive than B&H but since THIS item is the same cost and I'd like to get to know the local folks, that made sense to me.)

However, I recently broke my d30 and while it's in NJ, I'm without a camera. AUGH. It's been a few days now and my skin is crawling. My husband's skin is vicariously crawling (poor fellow).

I've never spent so much time on dpreview. And it's helped.

But I've thought about going out and getting a Polaroid, a Nick Click, a Holga or Woca (would have gotten a Holga, but there are none to be had as far as I can tell). Any other extremely low budget fixes you can suggest?

Desperately,
AK

You could get a piece of cardboard and write 'Will Photoshop for Digital Camera' and stand on the off ramp.

You could ask everyone to email you their un-processed RAW files and you could do the post-processing on them.

Or, you could hang out here :)

I would take a good look at a picture of the D30, then grab a sharpie and a piece of cardboard. Draw the D30 on the cardboard to the best of your abilities (the more childish, the better) and cut it out. Walk around the house holding it up to your face and sadly saying "Click" "Click" (feel free to grumble about front focus or slow autofocus). After a short while of this your husband (or other loved ones who happen to witness it) will rush out and pick up some kind, ANY kind of camera if for no other reason than to stop frightening the neighbors.

Barring that, you could go with something wacky and get the Action Sampler: http://www1.lomography.com/orbiz/DigiTrade/0001/main.html?pageID=130 (I usually see them at Urban Outfitters). I have a Lomo myself, but that wouldn't really be a low budget measure.

Now if only MY D60 would get here. I'm getting tired of making cardboard lenses. On a side note, anyone having any problems with their cardboard batttery grip? Mine tends to smoke when I plug it into the wall.

Wow. Have you been watching us? I'm not going to tell my husband about this post or he'll insist on window "treatments" downstairs. Took me forever to talk him out of them.

My sharpie is (my BOX of sharpies are) starting to dry up. My scissors are dull and my cardboard supply is running low. (Haven't seen the neighbors in a day or two.) And have you noticed how slow the CF transfer rates are?!

I can't really bring myself to offer processing since I COULD be processing some of my own uninspiring backlog. Or working on submissions. Or starting that photo essay for National Geographic with which I will someday wow the world.

I think I'll break down and order a Holga off ebay.

The CF transfer rates were getting to me too. I finally gave in and drew on a firewire port. Now it's like lightning with my corrugated laptop.

Love this thread. I, however, can walk around and grumble 'for real'--since I'm one of the lucky ones with a several months old D60. However---I don't--and won't. I'm in LUV with it smile . (I could, however, make a cardboard 100-400L--the only lens that I 'may' yet buy in the near future).

Laughter is good.

Actually I was happy to see your post as I've looked at your shots in the past and think them splendid.

Really,
