Would the LX3 be a good point and shoot camera too? using all auto?

unless your subject was well away from the tree!

I've always liked my name - it used to be very unique and to hear it belonging to someone else was a great rarity. Today it has become very popular.

You know Isabel I really would pass for a dummy sometimes.....the subject was my mum and I didn't think of moving her away from the tree in order to avoid colour casting. The tree is huge, I might reshoot the thing again tomorrow.

The only
potential negative I'd say for a full auto user is that you have to
manually pop up the flash.
No no no - that's the absolute best positive about it. The thing I hate about the "idiot mode" on every other compact I've owned is that it forces the flash on.

My only gripe about the iA mode is you can't turn the focus assist light off. I hate that little "I'm about to take your photo" signal.

My use of the LX3 so far has seen me go to P or A mode, make everything manual, and then steadily switch everything to auto. Most recently, iISO mode is back on most of the time, when I realized it did exactly what I wanted most of the time.

I expected that - read it either in a review or the manual. That's because it's doing so much - evaluating the scene to try to determine what scene mode to use, face recognition, etc...

We're all here to learn...and by people posting questions many of us benefit from the answers.

Some people are reluctant to post problems because they are afraid they are "too stupid" and they fear being attacked by the few rude people who always seem to inhabit online forums.

Much of what I've learned about photography and photoediting has come from participating in dpreview forums.

When I get a reply that "jolts" a little I just ignore it.
