Yep, no Cardinals around here lately, I think they are all visiting Sarah .. : )
So two House Finch shots, pretty quite around the feeder.

Excellent shots, I think I'd crop them tighter if it wouldn't affect the IQ too much.

I'm not a newbie on Dpreview, I've been here since June 06. Due to some ridiculous password problem, I lost my posting history. Nice huh?

Nice shots Dan. I really like the backgrounds and the birds look sharp and well lit.

Nice shots. I have a bunch of those here but the only time I see them in my yard is when they visit the feeder. They sit in my neighbor’s tree but I can’t get close enough to get a shot.

If I had to find fault I would asort of gree with Chang that the background in #1 might be a bit distracting. If it was my picture I might try and PP the background. I applied some Gaussian Blur to the background to see if it would improve things; don’t know that it is the answer but it might be a possibility – especially if done right, my version is a Q&D PP.

Very nice shots. Were these with your 18-200 vr?

Also, I visited your recent posts and I really really liked that "Solitude" shot you posted - very nice!

Nice detail!

I managed one of my own snow shots, thanks to Mother Nature and a cold front.

Not as sharp as yours, but it was through a double paned sliding class door of questionable cleanliness...

I got so excited I wasn't chcking the histogram, had to add abbout +1.5 stops, Yea RAW!

Nice shots. On the first one, I found the background a little
distracting with the different strips of color, what was it?
Thank you Chang and I see what you mean about the BG. It's a fence that runs along the back of our yard and the strips of colour are boards. Brooks has also mentioned this and did some blur which does look better. I will adjust mine to better blur the BG.

Thanks for the feedback and for commenting.

Hello Lora and thank you for your kind comments.

I could go tighter and had tried it before settling on what you see now which are both cropped to some extent. I thought they both look pretty good with the tighter crop, so quallity should be ok. The reason I did not, was most of my birding shot lately have the bird close to filling the frame except for one cardinal shot, so I though I was back off a bit and show some environment as well.

Looking at it now the fence/BG in the first may be a bit distracting, and I will blur it some. I may also look at reposting with a tighter crop as well.

Thanks for your feedback and for looking.

Thanks Bruno, I appreciate your comments and am glad you like them. Happy to hear you are content with the sharpening, I 've been trying hard to work on that, sharpening to a point but now over cooking them which I can sometimes easily do.

Thanks for your comments and for looking.

P.S. I have enjoyed your posts.

I find them, especially the males quite aggressive around the feeders. These were from the backyard, however I have a Gold Finch feeder in the front just out side my kitchen window and these guys will often hit it and scatter the gold finches. Can be fun to watch as on occasion a smaller gold finch will have had enough and stand up to the larger house finch.
If I had to find fault I would asort of gree with Chang that the

I replied to Chang and had made reference to you also being distracted by the BG which is the fence at the rear of our yard. It didn't really both me until you and Chang brought it up (ya -thanks ..LOL) but I do see what you both mean and although I can live with it, I very much like what you have done Thanks for taking the time.
The second is much cleaning for viewing and it will be easy for me to fix. I actually started adding a noise reduction&gaussian blur edit combined as my first step and just remove the effect from the subject. This way if I find that my edit steps bring out noise or cause the BG to be to disturbing I can easily correct it. I did applie a small amount of NR (not much but fine a little smooth things nicely) but did not add any blur. I will fix it.

Thanks for your comments Brooks and for taking the time to tweak the shot I appreciate that, oh of course for looking.
