What Nikon has come out with in the last 15 months or so is simply fantastic! I don't have to list it all here, we all know that they have at least levelled the playing field - if not taken the lead from Canon in the pro and advanced amateur DSLR market. With them doing so, we all win - Nikon photographers, Canon shooters, even Sony users .

Even so there still seems to be some people that complain and whine about Nikon "not doing this" or "not doing that". No company can do it all over night. However, no one ever expected Nikon to make such a gigantic technical leap as they just have in the last year. Now we are on the verge of yet another couple expected major annoucements by Nikon. Will the high MP DSLR body be annouced in a week? Will MX become a reality in February? Only time will tell. I'm sure new lenses and probabaly a little brother to the SB900 will be announced as well - eventually. I do know that no matter what Nikon comes out with, there will be some people complaining that they should have done this, or needed to do that...

Whatever happens on December 1st and at WPPI will I'm sure further the advancement of digital photography and make the lives of us users (pros and amatuers alike) easier while giving us greated quality images. So before the expected backlash from the naysayers at WHATEVER Nikon comes out with on December first arrives, lets just take a second to say thank you and congratulations to Nikon for the what they have achieved this past year or so. The best way to thank them of course is buy their products - but with the amazing stuff they are coming out with that comes easily.

So let the flamers go at it again on Decemeber 2nd, the complainers moan and groan that "they needed 587MP for their vacation 4x6 inch prints, etc, etc, etc"

and let some guy in Timbucktoo who is horribly dissapointed that Nikon didn't listen to him and make the whata-ma-call-it thingy that no one cares about but him go on and on ranting on this forum that Nilkon doesn't care about its users, blah,blah,blah....

Before all of that starts all over again, can we just take a second and say thank you and congratulations to Nikon for what they have achieved? Its great stuff - we love it. Keep it up! Three chees for Nikon!! Herer's to the next 75 years!

Now...back to your regularily scheduled moaning and complaining....

I agree...Thank you Nikon for fine products that let people be creative.

It could be worse. We could be stuck in some dark corner of usenet
with all the other gear heads arguing the merits of Intel vs AMD vs RISC!

There's so much bit*hin' and moanin' around here the day after the best camera comes and out they're all looking for the replacement. Sheesh.

When I shot professionally around 20 years ago, it was years between cameras with very few advancements.

The D3 is a spectacular and the best and coolest camera I've ever had and I've had a Russian camera, an east German camera (forget the names now), Pentax ME, Canon AE-1, A-1, F1, F1-N, Sinar 4x5, Hasselblad 205TCC, Canon 20D and now the D3.

Also several digital P&S too

So true. Thats even more useless.

I think the OT is spot on. I am incredibly satisfied with the D700 and totally agree that Nikon has released a lot of exciting products the last year and a half.

Bruce mate - you rock!!

Now come on Nokon relaese that Nikkor 14-600mm AF-S VRIII ED N f2.0-2.8 Titanium Lens that take 77mm filters and weighs 2kg!!!!

Nikon and Pro Nikkor Lenses.....

I have not heard such obscene praises like... from the communist era. Are you an ex-maoist?

It's just o corporation selling you products! The next step will be for you to ask people using a camera to bow and pray to the almighty camera creator. And eventualy burn on the stick the ones who belive in the devilish competition.

Can you just use the camera and shoot already and not infestate the internet with stupid and most off all dull pseudo-analyses? Do you at least make some money from these sickening praise of products and companies? I think I'll take a break from this semidoct forum.
Not my best regards,

I must admit L, I haven't read, seen or heard such highly charged and emotive 'product praise' since I myself took a pair of brand new Adidas Franz Benkenbauer football boots to bed with me!

I literally cuddled myself to sleep luxuriating in their newness, smell and day-glo green iconic triple striping!

I hasten to add... I was only 11 at the time! LOL!

There is no need to say thanks to a company for making a good product. You can say thank you by buying the product. The company would rather have your money than a thank you!

glad we agree on that John. I believe we, the ones on this forum, already the company by buying their camera. so no need to go on and compose odd odes.

yeah, sure, I sometimes feel the pleasure of choosing Nikon over Canon too when the camera does WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO but don't feel this childish urge to praise papa nikon in public.

and above all, this kind of posts transformed the d700 forum into a happy consumer-frenzy-home staying -camera caressing place.

Well, they could have loaded the D700 with more megapixels, replaced the body with plastics and put on a neat little print bridge button. They could even have lowered the price. I think it's right to tell when you are satisfied, and beyond what you even expected. That is the signs of a market oriented company which rather thinks long term than short term, and focus on quality. They have managed to beat their fiercest competitor by a mile this year, without resorting to cheap gadgets, whistles and bells. It gives the brand credibility. I say that calls for a little praise, because I then know I can trust the company to deliver the best products with the right quality.

I also think you should try to be more polite to your fellow forum participants.

Of course you do. Anyone who thinks that Nikon will not continue to introduce new pro bodies and lenses on an annual (or nearly annual) basis would be an idiot. To constantly speculate on the dates of the announcements and releases is such a waste of time, I can't believe so many on this forum do it. For those very few people for whom the extra pixels of a D3x are crucial, I understand how anxious you are. WAIT PATIENTLY. (There will be plenty of time between the announcement and the real availability, and even more time until the price dips below MSRP). For those who dream of a medium format, or a rangefinder Nikon, keep hoping and dreaming. For those of us who already have D3's or D700's and are happy about them, this is all irrelevant, as most of us will use the bodies for a number of years before upgrading.

I agree, the guy is just venting some positive experiences, instead of frustration, the common thing here and elsewhere.

Nikon has done a pretty good job as a serious camera maker for the past 1.5 years, better than most would have expected, actually.

Not bad at all.

So lets not gush all over Nikon. They still have issues with lack of sensor cleaning on its pro models and BIG issues in not getting better quality zooms and primes out there. The 24-120 is a joke and cant compete with canons f4 quality mid range zoom. They are moving in the right direction but are not worth all the gushing at this point. When they introduce a replacement 851.4, 281.4, 70-2002.8, 3004.0VR, then we can gush.......
