When I turn off the camera, the lens goes back and makes a strange vibration noise. I checked the camera and found that the lens did move a little bit if you touch it which could explain this noise when going back in.
Is it normal ?
Thanks

I don't know whether it's normal or a problem with the lens mechanism, but my new G2 does the same thing. Also, I checked the demo unit at the camera store where I bought mine, and it had the same vibration when closing. -- Jeff H.

Jeff, its normal. Enjoy the G2 it can take some truly great pictures

To tell all the story, I bought it 2 days, and I went to the dealer to explain my case. When he heard the vibration, he just replaced the camera. The new one he gave did work in the store for about three test but at home after, this noise of vibration was still there. So I guess now that it's normal, but the dealer did chande it, so what????

Does your lens move a little bit if you touch it cause I'm this cause s the vibration.
Sorry for my bad english, I'm French

Ya... I hear the sound comming from my G2 too... Dont know if its "Normal" I have had one problem with the lense so far... one time it retracted only half way and then everything shut down... I was like WHAT!!! so I powered it back up and shut it down again and it worked fine... so I'm clueless... and u know what... I notice that the vibrating sound occurs mostly when I have my camera at an angle and turned it off... if it make sure its horizontally placed and then turn it off it usually shuts down w/out the vibrating noise...

It is normal for
a) the lens to make noise when moving
b) there to be a litte bit of give (lateral movement) in the lens when touched.

Yes, I have that too... It is a bit annoying for a product that costs 1000euros.

This question comes up often in this forum. The noise is normal it seems. It doesn't effect the camera. Lens does move a little, but that seems to be normal too. And yes, my G2 does the same thing :)

Hello there,

i've notice that on my G2 but the noise only occur when you use the camera on a position that is pointing down, i've also detected that when i do some macro zoom over a flower that the zoom pumps instead of zooming normal.

I think this is nothing to worry about because it does not affect the camera fuction i think it's more anoying for a 1.200,00 euros camera, but i guess the more you use it the more noise the camera will make...

One advie is to be carefull not to bump with the lens on any place cause it could damage the mechanical part and the you are in real trouble.

Keep taking great photos with G2. Since i bought it i could not leave it anywhere.

Best regards,

Rui

I seem to remember a thread a while back where this was a concern. Think of it this way; lenses are heavy, usually more than a couple of groups, perhaps a few elements too and all of it made of glass. I TRY to remember to point my G2 either skyward or on the horizontal when turning off to help take some strain off of the lens motor's mechanism.

Rest assured that most G2s have this quirk and move on to learning how to take fantastic pictures with it. You have a great piece of kit now so get into that learning curve. One more thing, Technology is not a perfected industry: if Man is involved somewhere along the process there will be hiccups and the G2, while pretty great for what it is, is no different.

Peace.

Its like steering wheel in your car it also has little play in it. But don't push on it to much, it can damge the zoom mechanism.

Rui,
