Hi. I tried searching about this problem but maybe im not using the right keywords.

I am getting a weird green "dot" on all my pictures. it appears on all pictures in the exact same spot. It appears in all conditions and with all settings.

you can see the green "dot" in the lower left corner of the picture. it is most evident in darker pictures but can still be seen in others.

looking back at my old pictures it seems that the dot has just recently appeared.
is there anything i can do to fix this problem?

thanks!

Yup, that looks like a bad pixel to me.. What you can do about it depends on the camera - if it's an E10 with later firmware or a D40 / C4040 etc then you can do a pixel map (on the E10 it involves enabling pixel mapping in the setup menu and removing the battery unit for a few secs and replacing it) . if it's something older or an E100RS, just live with it and edit it out in Photoshop etc as ONE isn't too bad ..

Hello

The green dot is a hot/stuck pixel. The manufacturer can re-map the CCD array in the camera and eliminate it, but it's probably not worth it, unless the camera is in its warranty period.

As digicams age they occasionally do this. It may be a pain in the you-know-what, but you can clone out this pixel in your editor.

I don't think there is anything you can do about this yourself. The camera will have to be sent in. This will be an expensive repair if the camera is out of warranty. You have to decide if you can live wiuth this or not.

As others have said, it's a "stuck" pixel on the CCD of your camera.

The EXIF info says this is aan Olympus C3000; As far as I know, that model
doesn't have remapping available.

Contact Olympus, and find out what it would cost, then decide whether the cost is worth more than the time you'll spend cloning out the pixel. :)

Hmm... As a thought, there are "hot pixel" removing tools available. Perhaps one of them would do well on this type of problem. It's not actually a "hot pixel" per se, but it's the same idea.

that is a dead pixel and the only remedy is to send it to Olympus for repair.

If your camera is still under warranty Olympus will fix it. Don't let it make you nuts though. You can take it out in photo editing if your camera is not new or if you don't want to spend the money to have it fixed.

It would be MUCH simpler - and wouldn't involve being without the camera - to merely edit that little pixel out in shots where it's evident.

Takes about 2 seconds in a graphics editor - even MS Paint can handle that.

It appears to me that you might have another one(group) on the ring finger. Or is it something else?

Francis,

I am also getting green dots on my pictures. I have a Olympus 3030 zoom.

It IS very annoying. I bought my camera using American Express so they double the warranty from 1 year to 2. My camera is just over 1 year old.

I also sent an email to Olympus service expressing my extreme disappointment with this issue.

My research on this issue so far shows that the green dots are referred to as hot pixels. While black dots are dead pixels.

I read too that the Olympus 4040 has a menu item that maps out these pixels when they show up. But earlier models do not have this feature.

For those out there, please stop your postings about "just fix the dots with photoshop". How would you like to edit every photo you take to remove these green dots? GEEZ! Wait till these dots start showing up in your cameras as they start aging.

The phone quote I got from Olympus was $187 USD to repair it. But to get a written quote I would have to send the camera in.
The Olympus US phone number is (562)492-5700.

Note that all digicams will suffer from hot/dead pixels sometime. It is the nature of the CCDs today.

If you have Photoshop, a great and easy way to fix these on all photos is to create a mask of all the image except the pixel/pixels. Clone out the bad one and then make an "action" to remember all that you did. You can then batch process this action automatically to an entire folder of images....just sit back and let the machine do it. Much cheaper than sending it back.
