Bidding on an SD-9. Tell me about yours please.

Ann:

My two cents, which mostly echoes the other replies.

The LCD viewer is way too small. The auto focus only has one point. The battery requirements are medieval. It only takes smaller CF cards. The shutter sounds like a car crash. Anything over 100 ISO is noiser than a cage full of drunken monkeys.

But it still takes better photos than anything else I've ever used, including the SD14. It just takes fewer of them, because of all the things listed. If you can deal with all that, you are gonna love it. I'm glad I kept my SD9, even though I've accepted a slight loss of quality for a lot more quantity and mostly shoot with the SD14.

Tried SPP 2.5 ? it's barely a third of a stop worse than the SD14 at ISO400 from my tests, OK I'd not choose to use the cam at ISO400 but i'd only use ANY Foveon cam there if pushed.

As for the AF point - the SD14 only has one usable one the rest are for show like the various low end canons etc.
Yup, it's the IQ that gets you - the DP1 is lovely but it's a bit too normal ;-)

My experiences differ:

the Battery lasts way longer than with the SD10, since the SD10 works on the edge.
They reduced the CR123s inside the handgrip, which are present in the SD9.

If You use ENELOOP akkus , the handgrip Batteries last 900 shots, and the normal AA
ones last
420 shots.Pretty good.

If You format Your CFcard at FAT16 on Your desktop, the SD9 is able to "swallow" 4GB pictures, and that is VERY GOOD.

The SD9 is the bomb.Supernice colors, and sharper than the SD10.

My sarcasm required hyperbole. By "medieval", I meant the system itself; ...two types of battery, one of which required removing the grip. THAT is medieval. ;)

I never tried the FAT16 format. Nice to know.

And in case I was too thick-headed to get my message across; ...I LIKE the SD9.

Not Medieval, just Thoughtless , at least it's the batteries which are changed the least which have to have the grip removed -

On the Pentax K10D, unlike any other DSLR I know of, the battery grip only holds one of its Li-Ion Batts, the other is in the Camera where it would be normally sans grip, so you have to take the grip off to get at it ! if that's not stupid enough, they repeated it with the K20D instead of releasing a better designed grip to go with it !

And Nikon has done that with the D300 grip:-(

Good point Ollivr. I put in a couple of bids on this and another SD9 in Oz, but the price on both of them went too high for me too.
This may sound obvious to you but just in case..maybe the next time
you go for a seemingly good SD9 offer on ebay, don't post this here
until the auction is over..I think you triggered the hunting instinct
of a couple of other latently interested people with this thread..
