D60 black & white gallery - something different!

But how do you print these? Film recorder?

Personally, I'm glad my D60 takes up most of the color commercial end but traditional B&W just has no equal in the digital spectrum.

WOW ... what a gallery ... i like these shots (i saw some of them in the original colour too) ...
I played around with a program tonight called BWorks. What a great
way to play in the black and white world! Totally fun and not
complicated like Photoshop!
sometimes i use the same software (you saw it in my thread) ... you may try the other programs as well: CleanSkinFX, ColorCastFX or FilterSIM ... it's amazing how easy some things can be done ... ;-)

happy shooting and keep posting,

regards, ulli

Enjoyed these David. Also noted Ulli's.

I believe I have this app on my computer (it is out forsome upgrades so can't check). I also just dled another one--its not free but the demo is for 30 days. I believe I was pointed to it on the touchup forum http://www.theimagingfactory.com Try the B/W Converter. I wish I could remember who recommended it but he does a lot of 'art b/w' and uses it.

Hi Diane - I downloaded B/W Converter to try and it looks interesting but seems rather pricey for a plug-in filter($99).BWorks is very easy to use and fun. Very visual but limited control features. I think it was a free download!

I will play around with my 30 day demo of B/W Converter and possibly post some images when I get some in the can.

Oh, I agree it is pricey LOL. I don't plan to purchase it as I do all my conversions myself, but it was fun to try and I'll fiddle with it for 30 days. As I said, think I have the one you used---and I also have Fred Miranda's, I think. When I get my computer back Monday I'll check. I do a lot of B/W so always willing to try actions/apps, whatever.

BTW, for the person that wondered about printing, maybe he is unaware that there are great quad ink sets for b/w printing with most of the Epsons--there is a maillist---these are folks mostly doing b/w as art prints. If anyone is interested, I'll find the maillist addy--it was a yahoo group, but not sure now. They are pretty into b/w printing and are extremely knowledgable as it appears that a number of them did darkroom b/w for quite awhile--so they are fussy. I can also list some of the places for finding the quad/and sixtone ink sets too (Piezography is one, but digital art supplies is now carrying the same ink from same resource--there is at least one other--and profiles are available for a number of papers). I'm also very anxious to see what the new Epson printer (2200p I think) with the 2 black inks is capable of--in the meantime, I'm planning to convert one Epson printer--probably the 8 x 10 printer--to a black ink set and leave my 1280 for color only.

I really liked the black and white images in your galleries. Great subjects and well composed images that gave the feeling of being there, in that black and white moment.

As much as I like black and white color can be quite appealing too.

Lovely colors--and terrific 'blues'. I started to pay attention to your photos (in other words, I open a thread when I see your name) when you posted your dog (Corgi) photos. Do you have a gallery online, David?? I'd really like to see more.

You notice that I'm not opposed to color either from my sig LOL. I liked the 'true' color I got with my E10 and love the D60 color when I use a custom WB esp.

Glad it's all easy for you but it would be complicated for me to do these burned look images. duotones, heavy sky look or the type "C" paper look in Photoshop. What can I say? I'm obviously not the Photoshop Guru that you are.

I wanted to share a program that I thought was easy and fun and quite usefull for those of us who don't have your superior skills.

How dare I say Photoshop is complicated. For most people it is very intuitive and most master curves, levels, layers, masks, unsharp mask, etc. in a matter of minutes! RIGHT? It probably takes another half hour to master duotones, block printing effects, etc.

Hmmmm! Take picture as RAW, convert to 16 bit tiff, adjust, make a duplicate layer, change to lab mode, adjust just the red channel, sharpen just the edges etc. Oh yeah, convert to 8 bit tiff and save as fine jpeg. Wow, this is easy! Only a total idiot would think Photoshop was complicated! LOL

I didn't mean to sound insulting or anything... Sorry. Maybe I shouldn't post from work, eh? We've all got preferences, I just happen to prefer Photoshop since I'm used to it.

Nice photos, though.

Hi complex - Sorry - I thought you were flaming me. Maybe I shouldn't post after having my in-laws-over all day! LOL

Photoshop is a great program and I use it for every picture I take that I want as a keeper, even the above pictures I posted in this thread(Re-sized and framed).

I do find it can be complicated though!

Hope we are all good here! Internet communications can be less than ideal sometimes. Sorry if I misinterpreted your comments.

PS - If you know any methods of getting great black and whites in Photoshop I'd love you to share them with me. I'm open to anything that will help make me a better photographer.

I haven't tried the technique discussed here:
http://www.zuga.net/article_55.shtml
but it sounds good in theory.

David,

http://www.piezography.com is supposed to blow the socks off any (repeat) any black and white process on the planet. Take a look at it. I believe Ansel Adams would be using it if he were alive. It's a method to print black and white on most any epson printer. Let me know what you think.
