Let's be creative and see what we could use a D90 video mode for. Here's a few to start with. I'm sure there are many more.......

Connect to a microscope

Macro videos (I'm sure we're going to get sick of seeing a bee land on a flower :))
Happy Birthday clip

Candid video clips where it won't be obvious that you are actually using a video camera.

I do lots of Christian event photography, most involve working with Sr. High students. There is a huge demand for video, but I just can't bring myself to put the camera down and shoot video. I'm a serious shutterbug, and it pains me to ditch the camera and dig out my video cam. I will always feel better and look forward to doing video with my DSLR.

We also like create video testimonies with the consumer video cameras, but they look extremely amaturish. I'm looking forward to filming testimonies with a shallow DOF. I already know that this tool will improve the look of our videos.

General Notions are Generally Wrong.

Little clips of my son as he's growing up. Voice changes, his funny ways of saying things... all stuff I should have done with a video camera but never got around doing. Now I might. :)

I probably wont use it, I just wanted the in-body focus motor and the CMOS sensor.

Its a bonus, I might use it to record a hot-lap in the racecar. Those usually vary from 1.2-4 minutes. The video quality would be much better than my handycam given the dark dash and such that I might see where I make mistakes.

Or candid stuff at a party, I can see some real blackmail material coming out of this.

No way!!! Wow, that is great to know. (And embarrassing to mention that I indeed to have some that need rotating! LOL)

I animate and create special effects as well as teach a class on the subject here in LA.

This camera looks great for capturing high quality original footage for students to use in my class. Might even be able to use the footage in productions, but that will have to wait.

I'm sure we've all been there - you get the camera on the tripod and frame up the family/party etc, then start the self-timer and run into your position in the group. All is well until the red-eye multi-burst upsets a restless pet, or something happens to spoil the shot.... so you try again....but now you can just set exposure and focus, press Lv, press Ok and then run into the shot pretending the self-timer is going, and say, "Hold still everyone....smile...keep smiling.....keep smiling......". Candid video is definitely where this feature will shine ! But hurry, cos soon every dslr will have it....

You can mark the begin time and end time of the rotation to correct it if it's in the middle of a clip. The effect is your "frame" rotates 90 degrees and the video remains in the correct orientation.

it could be used to make spectacular underwater videos. the pros are obviously great resolution and the the possibilities different lenses provide (low light, dof etc). underwater holding the camera relatively steady wouldn't be a problem either. however i wonder if the underwater housings can be made usable enough (there seems to be some small button pressing involved in video mode).

I'm going to investigate if my idea will work: for action shots.
Think for a moment: a 24 FPS machine to capture that exact
moment - the perfect catch or a motocrosser coming out of
the berm. It's a well-known fact that many media giants use
the Red One to easily capture "that moment in time". They
merely look for it in the video and yank the image out. I'm
waiting to get my hands on a D90 AVI file to analyze the
images contained within for IQ.
