It looks like this is a catch-up for Mac OS X (10.4) only.

I'm glad Sony is supporting Mac, but I wonder why the a700 doesn't work with 10.5 while the others do? Hopefully another update will follow soon.

There seems to be a problem with IDC and Leopard, but apart from that the A700 will always mount as a mass storage system and allow you to access your pictures....

Not sure what the problem you are seeing is, but the A700 does work with Leopard. I have an A700 and OS X 10.5 running on a variety of Macs and have not encountered any problems at all.

It does support 10.5 the Asian Sony site has the correct info:

DSLR-A700P, DSLR-A200W, DSLR-A200, DSLR-A350, DSLR-A350X, DSLR-A700, DSLR-A200K, DSLR-A700K, DSLR-A300K, DSLR-A350K, DSLR-A300, DSLR-A300X

The new version of Sony Image Data Suite* which includes some improvements for Mac OS X is being offered to DSLR-A200/A300/A350/A700 users.

Sony Image Data Suite is a collective name for the following software.

Remote Camera Control
Improvements
The following symptoms observed in Mac OS X v10.5 have been corrected.

The display panel is not displayed properly in Remote Camera Control.

The rating icons on thumbnails are not displayed properly in Image Data Lightbox SR.
Image Data Lightbox SR unexpectedly shuts down.
Supported Operating System

Mac OS X v10.4
Mac OS X v10.5
  • Unsolved issue: When using Image Data Converter SR Ver.2 in v10.5, the scroll bar on the window of the enlarged image may not be displayed properly.

The A700 works fine under 10.5, and IDC too.

Regards

Thank you

It is Sony then that did not update there site with the right information.

Glad that we have this forum to help me out.

Does anyone know if this software will work with the a100?

I don't believe I ever got any MAC software for a100. Was there software provided with the a100 for MAC use? I use CS2 & CS3 primarily right now.

Wow, hold the phone mate!
That means that the A700 doesnt work with 10.5? As in, the system
wont recognize the camera as a drive and such?
A700 works on all Macs and all OS versions. You're thinking like a Windoz user. ;-)

But support for Sony, as well as many other camera brands, varies on third party software for Windows and OSX. I use Aperture 2.x on 10.5.4 with A700 no problem. The Sony software also works on Mac OSX. I believe that OSX 10.4 version software (as Sony probably says) will work on 10.5.x in most cases. But they are just behind the curve on testing and version compatibility confirmation.

Thats exactly the problem, Im a Windoz user and not proud of it one byte...

Thats why I need to jump into the Mac boat ASAP, but I always make sure my bases are covered, so if I buy a A700 and a Mac wont recognize it, then I should stick to Windows, but now thats been cleared up...

Can you tell me about your experience between your A700, Mac computer and Aperture?

Do they get along well? Is Aperture a better program than Photoshop to process RAW files and edit photos? (I know this question is subjective to the particular needs of every person, but what do you think?) Has your Mac got stuck or crash while using Aperture?

Any info you can provide will be useful.

Thanks in advance :)

I run 10.5.4 and shoot with the a700 and have had NO problems running the Sony IDC. In fact I have had the latest Sony SW on the machine for over a month now.
I don't understand what the issue is concerning OS 10.5.4 and Sony's IDC???
