Protest Photos

The country is going straight to hell, gas is $4+ a gallon, corn and food is like gold, utility bills are doubling, jobs are disappearing faster than a corn cob on Festus' feeder, the national debt is too big to compute on a home computer, our borders are like a sponge soaking up anyone that wants to enter at will, half of America is being forced out of their homes and into the streets.......

Yet we have only a tiny handful of protesters that give twenty minutes of their time?
Well, at least you got some nice shots of what apathy looks like in America.

The country is going straight to hell, gas is $4+ a gallon,
We would be happy if it would be as cheap as that here...
Indeed, over here in The Netherlands gas is $ 9,27 a gallon. The only difference is that we are used to it. I feel sorry for you Americans though, especially if you have a gas-guzzling SUV, but it's time to step back a little. :)

were apparently run on electricity ...... maybe after a century the whole petrol thing will be seen as a brief detour .....

As Mao tse Dung said when asked of the place of Napoleon in history ... 'its far too soon to tell '! ... Hey and then look what happened to china ...

As the old Kiwi Al blacks coach once memorably said in an interview

well . Ya know ... you never know , you know!!!

Unless you have ample supplies of wind, sun and waterpower, isn't electricity a detour??
How many energy is wasted producing electricity from fossile fuels???
The conversion surely gobbles up energy as well.
Ah, one could use nuclear energy as well... :-D

There is a contradiction theer, why on earth would people like to go to your country after all you mention? Aside from visiting Festus ofcourse

The USA gas should be at least twice as expensive, that way less fuel would be used :-D

8-15,000!!! Guess what? CNN reported 8-900!!! Lying Even the D.C. paper ignored our march. A non-revolutionary Marine Colonel expressed amazement that our march was not listed in the paper, and he disliked the whole march idea! The rally lasted from 8-5:30! It was 100 deg, and 7 people passed out from heatstroke. I was able to use my press pass to clear a path from a passed-out person to a bottle of water and back in record time. The passed-out chick had her boyfriend there, or else I might have been tempted to pull a "sandlot" for those of you who saw the movie!

I understand your point, but I can't emphasise enough that gasoline priced over $2.00/gallon here is much like gasoline priced much higher in Europe, except I think we get even less of the money going into various social programs. The thing is, you see, the bulk of our transportation infrastructure is based almost entirely on easy access to cheap gas. We simply don't have the transit alternatives that much of Europe or Japan has as far as quality trains, trams, trolleys, and busses go. In the majority of regions here, if you want to get somewhere in reasonable time, you have to drive or take a taxi, because there is NOTHING else; often not even sidewalks.

Now, I agree, it SHOULDN'T be that way, and maybe paying our "fair share" for gas will finally change that, albeit very slowly. The fact is, though, that the transitional period is going to be long, often bungled, and painful.

We've had cheap gas for so long here, that most of us really did think that it would go on like that until the wells ran dry, if we even thought about it at all. So yes, while four-dollar gas would be cheap in Holland, it is not cheap in Holland, Michigan.

By the way: Some REALLY nice shots in there, spiffy!

Seriously, we have many here that are returning to their home countries, due to economic hardships, lack of opportunities, and abuse at the hands of rich corporations.

I love America, although I am a Texan first and American second, but this place has changed, and not for the better.....unless of course, you are of the upper elite class, where the misery of others is your gain. A story as old as time.

We are in a real bind. The Democrats will not let us drill our own oil and will not let us develop more nuclear power. Their answer is to raise taxes on the oil companies, so they can pass it along to the customer. In the end, they keep progress from happening.

We need to develop the next generation of energy, beyond fossil fuels but we need to drill our own oil now and possibly develop more bio fuels too. Right now there is work on being able to take things like corn stalks and grass clippings and turn them into alcohol. We could also legalize and develop regional sources for alcohol since this is currently verbotten. These may not come online for a while but they would have an immediate effect on the price of imported fuel.

Then there are taxes....

Tesla singlehandedly brought us this age. Yet, his life work is classified. He died in 1942. Oh, by the way, Tesla invented, in the early 1900's, an aircraft without "wings, propellers, or control surfaces" which could fly "thousands of miles an hour"....sound like anything to you? He even tested his idea with a working model which he rode around, he tried to interest the US govt., but they were more interested in proximity fuses.....idiots. Oh, well they are using Tesla's idea now! (Hint, think "UFO"...yup, it's all true, but grossly misunderstood. No green men, just a 95 year old scientist, the most brilliant man who ever lived! Declassify him!)

He also invented a car which ran for 6 days without consumable fuel, but the people of the 1800's called it black magic, so he got mad and broke it. Probably having something to do with resonance, and the atmosphere.

Sorry for poor writing, I'm in a rush. As usual.

Actually, in the end you wind up with cars that get great economy and more use of public transportation/carpooling/ect like $8 gas has done for Europe. The higher cost makes fossil fuels less competitive with newer alternative fuels and technologies which advances their adoption. While we need more nuclear, we also need more modern reactors like France uses in order to get the most out of the fuel and minimize dangerous waste.

Biofuels aren't the answer. People gripe about the inefficiency of solar, but it is many times more efficient at collecting energy than organic life can. And it uses FAR less water, something that will probably come to a head before a real oil shortage. The efficiency of the biofuel process is low enough before running it thorough a traditional internal combustion engine and getting 25% of the energy turned into motion with the remaining going to heat.
Then there are taxes....
Through the window in the wall
Come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning

The problem is that it will take years and years to develop all this. America is big and empty. One needs a car to get anywhere. We need cheaper fuel now and that means drilling our own and developing the better bio fuel options as we develop the next gen of alternatives. Fuel from grass clippings and crop waste can be developed and in use long before we get a cheap fuel cell. The oil companies spread their propaganda about inefficiency. If I remember correctly, grass clippings are free and alcohol produces 20% the pollution of gas.

I want an electric car but hey, that will not be viable for some time. In the mean time, lets use what we have.

The Dems will tank our economy if we do not take real steps right now. Wishing for something better years from now is fine but they have no solutions now except to take our money.

The next step will be crop and yard waste. It can eventually be turned into alcohol, which is far cleaner than gasoline. 110 octane too. :-)
