602: More samples

Hmmm, that super macro... I too had that feature high on my
favourite improvements list. I didn't really test it yet, just
some snapshots (not worth posting).

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I think (again from
snapshots, will do a descent test one of these days) it doesn't
live up to the expectations.
With cam set to super macro you can get very close (2 cm/1 inch)
but how useful is that in the field? You're blocking all light for
yourself, perhaps indoor with proper lighting it can be useful, but
that's not what I had in mind, they invented scanners for that :-)
Yes I wondered when I saw Phils example. It was heavily shaded and had a definate fisheye look to it.
Overall I am quite happy with the normal macro that the 4900/6900/602 give.

I am glad you are using the camera in creating photos and not doing endless analysis over pixels noise etc! When I take photos with my 4900 I am still amazed and delighted at how most come out. No camera is perfect in every situration, but I have results that would have amazed me if I had taken them with my OM1 (my other camera).

Still like to see a few examples from you though :)

cheers

I presume people still want to see some samples from the 602 -
judging by the fact that my first test shots album still gets many
hits to this very moment. So here are some test shots from a walk
in Amsterdam, capital of The Netherlands, this afternoon. All
3mp/fine, straight out of cam, not even cropped. Mind that most of
the time it was either raining, about to start to rain, or it had
just stopped to rain.

Not fishing for compliments or anything like that, I just hope this
can help people make up their minds as to whether they like this
cam or not. Seems to become an ugly discussion from time to time,
so here is some more ammo for those people :-)

Still love the cam, not found a single thing I dislike. As I wrote
before, I don't take part in discussions on noise, fringing
etc...(find that boring and useless) but I would like to say again
that the feel (that includes operating) of the cam is one of its
best features.

The great focus speed, EVF and battery life help a lot there. I use
this cam almost as if it is an (d)slr, most of the time after I
take a shot I don't even bother to switch the cam off, so ready for
the next in a split second.

All and all quite a different experience that I think you have to
feel for yourself to know what I am talking about.

Of course I'm willing to answer any questions anyone might have.

Hey there 4900'r Mark...

Great photos. And I do mean great. For starters, Amsterdam makes a McDonald's look like a four star restaurant. It really looks like you are having a good time with the camera. I am particularly impressed with the battery life. With continuous shooting I get maybe an hour or two at best off of the NP-80s. It isn't bad, but it isn't great.

I love the wooden shoes shot. And you do so much better with the B300 that I have ever managed to do. You are going to have to let me in on the secret because my results are usually less than stellar. Your people shots are up to your usual high standard and so much fun to look at. I think the one you embedded here is my favorite. The cell phone couple is a close second. And your shot inside the ill-gotten booty shop is great.

It is nice to see photos back on this forum. I had really missed looking at other peoples' artwork. Thanks for posting these. I think they are a strong argument in favor of the 602.

regards...

Thank you stranger :-)

Let me assure that most McDonald's in this country look like zero star restaurants, just as in the States. Reason I shot this one, to see "the other" MD, I hate the shot really...

One of the big pluses of this camera I'd say...
I love the wooden shoes shot.
Thx, and did you notice the sign somewhere up there that says "no foto terrorism"? (yes Foto! - if this isn't proof I'm Dutch I don't know what is :-)
I think I was lucky not to get arrested there :-)

Well, yes you know I love to shoot those "ordinary people shots", and with this cam I get a successful-shot-score that is I think 5 times higher than with the 4900, simply because of its focus speed. I love it...
I think the one you embedded here is my
favorite. The cell phone couple is a close second.
Like I wrote in some post, the easiest shot to shoot of all, but one of my favourites too. I regret I didn't leave the guy a few euro's, I had run out of change on the "statue" before that. Shame, he really earned it :-(
And your shot inside the ill-gotten booty shop is great.
There's nothing illegal about that in this country as you know :-)

Thanks, and my regards to you,

And come back here more often, post more of those lovely shots like you did in the past, you are working waaaaaaaaaaay to hard! Money isn't everything you know :-)

Yep.....its that noise reduction again.

Im finding the noise reduction on the 602 to be a major issue when it comes to getting a good image - landscapes in particular (dark foliage)...It seems the the camera not only removes the noise from areas that are prone to it...but pretty much everything else too, in some cases these parts of the image look smudged where the camera seems to have just smoothed or blurred the pixels.

I tried taking pictures with the camera on soft sharpening, i admit they do look slightly better, but i guess what im saying is that when you spend this much on a camera you really shouldnt have to spend hours processing your pictures afterwards to get them looking good.

Really, this is my only problem with the 602, but im becoming increasingly bothered by it.....Fuji needs to fix this.

hi, a bit of a repeat post from me sorry if youve read it before !

The more samples that appear and the more i use my own 602 in the
past 2 days the more apparent it is becoming what sort of shot is
prone to the over agressive noise reduction that some people have a
problem with. The solution, if required, is easy, use soft mode for
the type of shot that is prone to the smearing and over-sharpness
and sharpen it yourself in your own image editing programme, the
smearing effect will not appear, that is what I have found anyway.

my quick experiment can be found at

http://www.greybardesign.com/602/

hope this helps !
