Nikon FF D700 (possible leak - looks real)

Competition is good. Without the D3, we may see a 1DMKIV that is
1.3x crop. Instead, we will probably see a Canon 1D that finally
adopts the full frame format.
Another moronic post.

I have no sympathy for people who bought the D300. They got what they paid for. LOL. They think the D300 is a great camera, when in fact what they have is a camera that have heavy doses of noise reduction at high ISO settings that make the camera resolve less than a 6mp camera.
Yes, you're right. I got what I paid for.
Good for you.
It is one hell of a camera.
I would agree that the body is very good.
A camera that shoots at 8 fps and take all the abuse including water.
I absolutely have no problems regarding NR as I also can switch it
off.
When you switch it off, you get noise. Something you get much less of with a full frame camera. You do get what you paid for. Noise or loss of detail. Take your pick.
The clean images and the high iso cut my post process by hours.
I simply don't shoot NEF anymore. Although I carry my Expodisc with
me all the time I almost never use it. Auto WB and the exposure is
extremely true. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about.
Rent one and use it for a week if you want to comment on one.

Ahmet
Rent one? Thanks but no thanks. I would much rather save my money and buy some ice cream with it. :) I can try to figure out what flavor to get or I have to decide whether to accept noise or a lack of details. Wonder why Nikon has to market a full frame, because people who can be fooled all of the time are getting fewer by the day. Those people who can only be fooled some of the time as saying no more high pixel count APS-C models. LOL.

The high ISO performance of the D300 is top class for an APS-C camera. So what you are saying would go for any other APS-C.

Actually is relevant for me...I have been a Canon user for more than 5 years and after almost 3 years of waiting for a 5D successor I know that Canon does not take care of its customers...yeah, you can argue that the 5D never had to be replaced because it never had a direct competitor...but what about us benefiting from the latest and best technology possible from them? I think nowadays technology moves very fast and three years makes any camera obsolete...

So, yeah I am fed up with canon and since Nikon has decided to make FX sensors I will be no longer an EOS user....

.. the 5D is great there is no need for upgrade crowd has been real quite lately. ;)

yes it will 1) let us know what alternatives we have and 2) gives us some indication what Canon might do to respond.

yes true: Canon should make customers happier rather than thinking only about perfect sales...
BUT don't forget how many years nikon users had to wait for a new D100!

The question is how will the Nikon D700 FX compete with Canon 5D Mark II!

Nikon D700 FX
  • 12.1 megapixel CMOS FX sensor
  • No dust reduction
  • $2999
Canon 5D Mark II
  • 16 megapixel CMOS sensor
  • Dust reduction
  • $3299
And, do not discount the Sony 24 megapixel full-frame that is rumored to be priced just below $4000. In the end it is good competition and we will have a real choice.

its not relevant,

if i want some informations about a nikon camera, i go to the nikon forum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as its in that potential market sector, and may well or has affected
what Canon do with cheaper FF, and as we all know this forum is
obsessed with the 5D II model release or whatever comes to replace
the 5D.

Great points. The FF market is Finally picking up momentum and the competition is great! Hopefully $7000-$8000 FF anything will become a thing of the past as more players enter the arena.

If Nikon's new 24 MP flagship undercuts the 1DSIII in price but not performance that will continue to drive the prices downwards for everyone ! Even the Canon fanboys will have something to sing about;-P

This is interesting and if true, will heat things up in the affordable FF segment.

My hope is that Canon does the 5D replacement right and doesn't muck it up. The biggest mistake would be more MP's just for the sake of it. Like Canon did with their UWA years ago making it 16mm instead of 17 to one-up Nikon. IMO keeping the new 5D at 13 MP but with all the new sensor design and processing technologies and adding better AF, weather sealing, high res LCD, etc. would make a killer camera. It appears the market is finding 12 to 13MP FF as the sweet spot as demonstrated by the 5D's following and now the D3. There would be little to no real benefit in 16 vs 13 MP's but a ½ or even 1 stop noise improvement would be useful and welcome. Many don't need or want the big files associated with more MP's and would prefer the advancement to be in lower noise and DR. I know I would.

That's my $0.02.

My PBASE page is new and growing so please be patient.

A few posts ago I suggested that it was feasable for makers to go for a single FF sensor rather than stick with a variety of sizes. I assumed that FF sensor prices would reduce purely through the the economies of scale. I also summised that with FF that if one wanted a crop for longer focal lengths that this feature could be included. The D3 cam up with no less than 3 resolution/crop options and the 1D MKIII with an SRAW option. Could it be that if this camera is genuine that it is a sign that FF will become the standard (with all the benefits that come with it)?

Maybe the question should be: Why would anyone care about guesses, rumors, and wild speculation that has no basis in fact?

Does anyone around here actually take pictures, or do you all just worry about what new toy may be coming out and how the other company might respond to it?

You know, come to think of it, I think Canon is going to quit the camera business and sell tortilla chips instead. I wonder how Nikon will respond?

In the meantime, I'm not going to eat any tortilla chips until this is all settled. I wouldn't want to buy a bag of chips only to find out later that a better bag of chips can be bought. Besides, I want to be sure to stay loyal to my chosen chip company and I will keep arguing endlessly that they will always respond to good chips with better chips, and at a lower price.
