Dpreview is causing me problems!!! anyone else having issues?

Lol.....all the idiots who frequent the stores are potential
customers. Sort of puts us all in the same boat. Nice to know the
clerks might be thinking...Oh Oh Look out..... here comes another
idiot wanting to buy a camera! No wonder the customers vote with
their feet and go to the internet shops.
Well, they are idiots if they want to buy a camera that doesn't exist except in the minds of other idiots who make up rumors about the nonexistant camera or believe the rumors made up by other idiots.
Over the years I have bought my cameras from courteous staff who have
been prepared to put up with all my many questions.....mainly to
reassure me that I am making a good choice as I decide to buy a
camera/ lens/lighting.
The OP didn't say he is discourteous, and I doubt that he minds questions that have to do with cameras that actually exist. Certainly he wouldn't mind them as much.
The process of buying usually takes several
months for many people...they don't usually just walk into a store
with no idea and buy a 5D or 1ds MK111.

In the past most photographers got their information about equipment
from knowledgeable clerks, magazine articles, trade shows or friends
advise....now we have forums with input from rank beginners, trolls
Yes, and idiots who make up rumors or believe made up rumors on forums and then go to stores and expect the clerk to know all about the nonexistant camera or have it in stock.
and fortunately some very clever cookies.

Clerks are paid to attend and service customers.....don't like
it.....YKWYCD.

I personally would pay a bit more for a camera from a nice
person.....but appreciate that it won't be that way for long.

im not saying that people who come in to the shop and ask about cameras are idiots, its a select few who tend to think if they know more about cameras, they have one up on me(the attendant). Seemingly photography attracts people who spend more time worrying about new cameras than actually take photos. I have met some brilliant people in the shop but more and more we are getting people who just want to know the most rediculous things, for instance i had a guy come in recently talking about a 'new' canon 5d, i told him i had heard nothing and as far as i could see it was a rumour, he then called me stupid because as he put it ' the specs are all over the web', i love photography and i love the equipment but there seems to be an ever increasing divide between photographer and technical geek. Whats the point of having a 5dmkii with iso that goes up to 1 billion and an integrated ansel adams telling you what to do if you nnever take phoros.!!! this post seems to have turned into a kind of therepy session for me!

Canon is presently retooling it's replacement camera because the Nikon D3 has raised the bar. Canon is forced to release a further "improved" replacement camera, or lose market share.

In the camera industry, manufacturers have ideas for future cameras well in advance, but marketing determines what is released, when and for how much.

We will see the replacement when Canon has updated it's camera to be released in the fall.

yet other stores are so exiting and friendly

sorry to say that
thank god the 5d mk II rumours are starting to calm down after the
furore of the 22nd, my problem is this, i work in a camera shop in
newcastle england and i have had loads of people coming in asking
about the 5d mkII, looking to me to provide them with the holy grail,
'when is it coming out' they ask i say 'i dont know', .... ..... ....

When someone like that comes into your store, maybe you should give them the phone number for the Canon CEO and tell them to call him and ask about the camera. That might convince them.

Another thing you could do is ask them if they actually saw the camera FOR SALE on the web. When they say no, you could then tell them there's a good reason for that: Because the camera doesn't exist!

Yet another thing is that you could ask them if they've ever seen anything fake on the web. When they say yes, you could say the rumors are just as fake, and then ask them if they would be interested in looking at a real camera.

If nothing else, tell them to look at the Canon website and see if they can find the camera there.

Just think, next year an updated 5D might be out and then the idiots will asking you about the next rumored camera. Oh boy. :)
