I've been editing my Italy pictures and would like to start putting them on the web, but I need to reduce them down to 640x480.

There are a bunch of difernet routines availible for resampling. Which do you find produces the sharpest images for reducing the size?

difernet = different
availible = available.

I use Infranview and it seems to work OK. I usually use a small touch of Unsharpen after I resize. Done in PSE.

The sad thing is that as an engineer I tend to generate more paper work than most other professions. Type 20 emails/day, reports, orders, design guides, etc.
I need to reduce them down to 640x480.
I knew it was either an engineer or a
programmar...progromer...programar... argh

Irfanview ( http://www.irfanview.com ) is a GRRRREAT (misspelled on
purpose :-> ) freeware program. Will do batch resizing among a
thousand other things.

These are three types that PS5.5 uses. I'm not sure what method irfanview uses. I did do a batch resize with irfanview and all of the pictures need some sharpenning. I was just wondering if there is a better way.

See the post 'photoshop creates jaggy edges ???' from a few days ago for a discussion of why Photoshop is not the best tool for doing this.

Infranview has several selections. If you want to do all the sizeing and sharping at one time take a look at this program
http://www.mediachance.com/dce/index.html

They have a 30 Day trial and the retail version is $35. It is easy to use and does many things all user choice and settings.

Hope this helps.

Hahah i'm an engineer too (just graduated from Systems Engineering Program here in Canada)

anyways the best algorithm for resampling for general purposes is a bi-cubic resampling.

There are other algorithms that software can use but depending on the images you can get extremely poor results.

a great program that you can try all the different options, as well as creating thumbnails, auto sharpening, colour balancing is called Altasoft EyeBatch.

it batch processes images. Its great for resizing 600 images in 4 clicks.

Hope this helps,

Mike

I'm pretty sure you can select between a few of them! (like 5 or 6)

my photoshop 7.0 does bi-linear and bi-cubic and nearest neighbour.

Hi Brian,

I found that Photoshop standard resampling are not working well..i prefer Lanczos and its available in infranview. Infraview can be downloaded for free on the web, but i don't have the link.

Maybe someone has it?
