When camera is turned on while in play (preview) mode, lens doesn't open or move out. That's expected behaviour, AFAIK.

Now the question: When camera is on (in taking photo mode) and you switch to play mode (to preview taken photos), should lens retract into camera or should stay open/out?

Thanks for answering,
Bogdan

I don't know what the A720 IS should do but mine does retract its lens into the camera when I switch it to review mode. Does that help?

You didn't say what camera you have, but it does help. Thank you Beth.

I ask because my wife's camera was on repair (lens protecting curtain refused to close) and since then lens doesn't rectract if in preview mode -but does when in power off.
As I don't use the camera, I just wanted to be sure about that. Thank you again.

Greetings,
Bogdan

I have a A720IS and the lens does not retract straight away when switching to review mode, there is a setting in the tools menu where you can set the time before the lens retracts. I think the default setting is 1 minute.

Mine does not retract immediately when switching to play mode from record mode. It does after some time-out period.

In the setup menu, "Lens Retract" allows you to select either "0 seconds" or "1 minute" (the default setting) for lens retraction when swithing from shooting to playback mode.

The default setting reduces lag time to begin recording again and saves wear and tear on the motor, assuming of course that you switch back to shooting mode within 1 min.

Thank you very much.

This is very valuable info in this regard -it seems I'll need to check wife's camera settings.

Sounds reasonable.

Wish you the best,

I have my A720 IS set at 0 & the lens retracts quickly after switching to review mode.
