This is the Naked Cowboy of Times Square.

The Naked Cowboy first appeared in Times Square a few years ago wearing only a cowboy hat, cowboy boots and under pants, while singing and playing a guitar – he is now a regular feature and a popular attraction in Times Square.

I was surprised to see him in Times Square in this cold February weather singing and playing his guitar with only his cowboy hat, cowboy boots and underpants on. It’s a hard job but the Naked Cowboy has to do it. Here are 14 Photos.

A $2 tip is required for the ladies to have their photo taken with the Naked Cowboy. Bring you own camera. On the top of his guitar there is a hole where the ladies shove in the dollars. I of course, didn’t have any interest of having my photo taken with the Naked Cowboy, and so, I didn’t have to shove in 2 dollars into the hole on the top on his guitar.

A lady with bushy white hair had entered into the area where the Naked Cowboy was performing and started up with her own act. She wasn’t connected with the Naked Cowboy and her act was totally unrelated to his act. After a short time the lady with the bushy white hair had left the area. She is shown here in these next 4 photos.

That is very interesting, and he must take in a pile of change. How cold was it when you were taking these shots? I noticed that everyone else is wearing jackets. The gal with the bull horn was putting on quite a show as well. It certainly looks like everyone was enjoying the show. Thanks for sharing. Dave

My dad works with his dad! He is from this area.

I first saw him about 10 years ago on TV. He seems to be pretty popular, like the bushman in San Francisco.

The weather was just above freezing. This sort of thing in the cold weather can not be healthy - with the flu season upon us.

He's a long way from home...

I am not familiar with the bushman. If you have a photo of him I would it would be interesting to see this bushman.

That is interesting and to me it seems very strange... not that I think that he is crazy - he is making a good living, strange or not.
Thanks for the information.

The police didn't bother him. The Naked Cowboy has been around for a few years, 10 years according to the newspaper that ran an article on him. After a while the police left and started walking around Times Square.

I guess that he has become a commonplace feature. I have notice that lots of people don’t pay him any attention but there are always new tourist in town. He had a large crowd around him on this cold, cold day - he was working hard for his money.

Nice documentation.... that's a LOT of shots.
Thanks….

Yes, it was a lot of shots. I was thinking that this forum has many members from around the world that have not been to Times Square, and that these members may find the unusual subject interesting and entertaining - and so, I felt that I needed a certain amount of photos to fully show the Naked Cowboy’s act in Times Square.

March 1, 2008. 9 photos.

The Naked Cowboy was back in Times Square and this time he was with the Naked Cowgirl. The Naked Cowboy was being interviewed by a local TV station while the Naked Cowgirl was entertaining the crowd. Tips for the Naked Cowgirl goes in her boots and she has a sign on each of her legs - “TIPS” with an arrow pointing down into the boot. It was another cold day in the city. The crowd was enjoying themselves and having a good time taking photos. Well, until the good time came to an end…

The Naked Cowboy and Cowgirl started playing their guitars and singing together - and then the cops came. I moved close to a group of police officers that were off on the side and listen to what the cops had to say. They had no issue with the Naked Cowboy, he was not a problem, it was OK for him to perform in Times Square - the issue was with the Naked Cowgirl - “She was topless” that was the statement by the police.

The Naked Cowgirl wasn’t going to leave, she wanted her rights. The TV crew moved in on her and the police and the TV crew dropped a big microphone down in the middle of it all and recorded the whole scene.

High ranking police officers arrived on the scene - they had gold badges on their hats. The Naked Cowgirl tried to persuade the police that she was within her legal rights but to no avail.

It was all over, at least for this day. The lady to Cowgirl’s right was with the TV crew and earlier was interviewing the Naked Cowboy. One last close shot from a tourist. She put on her winter coat and then she left the area.
