Go see this one guys !!!

Wow! It's amazing shot, very creative, I love it!

I would really like to get some feedback on this picture.

Before jumping to conclusions, there is no Photoshop work on this
picture beside recrop. I used a combination of daylight, flash and
+4 close up lens to acheive this one. The extra colors are from the
bowl I used to receive the droplet. It is an Italian Pasta Bowl
with plenty of colors. Since I'm a freak of colors, I want to know
others opinion.

amazing shot!

wish that i could do something like that one day! =) i am still very much a beginner...

well done!! love the swirling colours...

Best of its kind I've seen. The colors make it. how did you get the focus so sharp? Prefocus? And how did you tme the shot to capture the drop? I've never been real good at that!

Thank you Eric ...

It looks harder than it is really.

To get it in focus, I do this:

Use the full auto to make sure that the viewfinder (not the LCD screen) lets me se properly. When I am sure about the Focus, I hold the shutter buton half way and I SWITCH TO MANUAL FOCUS. This way I do not have to redo focus everytime. Also, I use 0 level of sharpness on the camera. I do not believe in adding focus from the camera itself as it adds noise. Also using a lot of DOF (depth of field) with f 8:0 helps a lot.

Hope this helps

Yves,

One of the best photos of this type I have ever seen. You are a true artist with an incredible eye. Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo yves!

THX Wilbill, you made my day too. I must admit, this kind of shoot is 50 % Skills, 50 % luck as you never know what's going to come out ... I am just so happy with the choice of bowl I used, this is really my best call for this picture.

It's an outstanding shot, Yves. Luck? You make your own luck in cases like this. :-) Very well done.

Your set-up info was interesting. I have one question. It looked like there were water drops on your lens/filter. If so, did you have to clean it after every shot or so?

THX Shay, I was wondering if you would have liked it ...

It must be my best shot for Macro so far. What is even more impressive is the limited amout of work in PS. Crop and cloned out 2 little light spot. No levelling or anything else.
Incredible! The color and variety is really eye catching. Great job.

THX Kerry for the kind comments, ...

The cleanig , ah ... excellent question. Yeah, I had to clean a couple of times which breaks the set up a little bit. This was taken in the first series of images so I was still at the initial set up. I cleaned only the +4 close up lens (the one exposed to the water) but remember I was about 16 inches away so limited water would end up on the lens. The +4 close up lens is a Canon 250 D. Expensive but incredible quality.

Hi Yves,

I know I could do a search on this , but after reading some of your posts, you seem to be an expert on Flashes. I am going to be photographing a friends wedding (for the first time) with my f707, do you have any suggestions on what external flash i should buy for this??

I really appreciate it

Superb. The colors from the bowl make it more interesting than just a drop of water. I would like you to flip tihis image upside down and see how it looks? Might be quite interesting?

Ah, the flash !!! :-)

Not an expert by a very avid researcher amybe.

I can only think of a few solution and that would depend on wether you have a staged photo scene or you are doing Candid.

Scenario 1 (staged). The sony F-1000 of course would be the logical choice. It has limited power (gn 28) so you have to be carefull where you are shooting. If it is outside and you need a fill-in, it is more than acurate. Inside (still staged), I would add a slave flash to cover undesired shadows created by the F-1000 (or internal flash which I don't recommend). The slave flash could be a regular 35mm inexpensive flash on which you add a slave hotshoe (minicell makes an excellent one for 15$ US).

Scenario #2 (Candid) The only way to go is the F-1000 and forget the slave since you have to move around quite a lot.

If anymore Q???, don't hesitate, I'll try to share as much as possible ...
I really appreciate it
