Panasonic TZ4 and TZ5

I still haven't seen anything! that makes me want to up-grade my TZ1.
The Venus lV maybe a real bummer, as 4 is a bad luck number in Japan.
:) And some of the features listed, have been long used on the TZ
series. I think the TZ1, will still be the only TZ to have video
zoom?.

FZ8 replacement missing???
The 18 Replaced the 8 Really as that sector has moved into the 15X
zoom arena - I know they were selling side by side for a while but
what's the point of 2 identical cams with different lens ranges ..
You can put the FZ8 in a reasonably big jacket pocket. That's
quite an important difference. To me anyway.

I noticed that right away but thought it was just because of the larger LCD and perhaps it had to be moved slightly to fit it in - and since Pan. looks to have used the same body as the TZ4's - it does look a bit odd to me as well when you compare the two.

What's up with TZ5's uneven LCD borders/frame...?
Remember...the TZ5 needs extra space on the sides compared to the TZ4 because the 16:9 capture is "real" with a TZ5 vs. a cropped 16:9 you will get with the TZ4. As you move from 4:3 to 16:9 with the TZ5, the image will get wider like it does with the TZ3. Going to the quick menu, I can move between ratios with my TZ3 and I can actually see the sensor taking in more side to side as I scroll from 4:3 to 3:2 to 16:9.

If you look at those two screens, the TZ5 screen looks slightly longer...this will be because of the actual 16:9 capture ratio. The TZ4 sensor won't change length-wise in 16:9...it will only crop the top and bottom of the frame and the effective "wide angle" will change from being 28mm to something more like 32-34mm in 16:9 capture.

Not enough for Pan to keep it in the range, especially with the ever increasing Mp of the TZ range - more a reason for you to keep your FZ8 than anything and do you REALLY want a version with a 10Mp 1:2.33" sensor ? .

IMO the best was the FZ5 in this range, the 7 and 8 got too plasticky AND noisy, hate to think what an FZ9 with 10Mp would be like

Actually, I've got the FZ5 and haven't upgraded to the FZ8 (partly from
the reasons you give which I tend to agree on). I mentioned the FZ8 as
the current representative of that pocketable line, the camera I'd have to
replace my FZ5 with if it had an accident.

I realise that line may terminate now that 18x zooms are in the vogue
and the Mp race may force bigger sensors, but perhaps in the vain hope
that Panasonic are monitoring these forums, I try to put in a good word
for that size of camera whenever I get the opportunity.

we can read many people say that the NR of panasonic cameras is too strong, so the details is lost. and picture become smearing.

many people solve this by

Select LOW NR, instead of the default. They maybe will choose LOWER if there is, but it is not there.
Or Choose RAW

what I suggest is that pana adjust the default NR setting lower One or two level: To LOW or LOWER NR.
this will solve most problems facing by the user.
and when they want more NR they have options:
Adjust the NR to High or HIGHER
or do PP/ NR on Computer

I hope they learn and implement it

Mode dial lost symbols from the TZ3, I see from the top view
pictures. No Macro or Play on the new dial.
Moving macro from the dial to a button on the back can only be a good thing. On the dial it functions as a pre-fab 'scene mode'. I'd rather have control over other settings while at the same time turning macro off or on.
