Not much to write home about. They reduced the lcd to 2.5" on the tz4 so it's smaller? Is the tz5 f3.3 at tele? Do either allow zoom in video?

This isn't looking good. Continuous autofocus has never worked on any Panny point and shoot. No mention of AE lock or manual control. ;(

Agree. The the FX35 has my interest. I do want to purchase a small cam this year. My wife loves her pink fx01, and it is nice to carry something in a smaller format. These cams are in consideration for purchase...TZ3 looks like a bargain at Vann's for $239, FX100 appears to be a good price at $279 at OneCall. Holding off to see what the FX35 offers.
This isn't looking good.
Really not much to look at. Maybe the 25mm fx35 will be interesting.
Why didn't they name it the fx25, ala fz18?

This sounds just like part of the same difference between the TZ2 (which I don't think was ever marketed here in the US) and TZ3.

Still wanna see ALL the actual specs later before making any comments one way or the other.

The TZ5 LCD resolution is listed at 460,000 pixels. That's pretty impressive. No if it takes video with zoom and decent audio they might sell a few.

The key for me is the Venus Engine IV.

If they've improved noise at ISO's above 200 then it will be a definite winner in my eyes. Its the only thing that bugs me about my TZ3.

Now that the new TZ5 can zoom during video, does HD clips and is much smaller than my S5IS - it's looking like the S5 may be heading to eBay (?). The G9, TZ5 and F30 may be my new camera 'trio'. Only bad IQ can blow it now. I was hoping Panasonic would add the zoom back and they did according to this:

"The new DMC-TZ5 records dynamic HD motion pictures in 1280 x 720p at a smooth 30 fps, in addition to WVGA (848 x 480) and normal VGA (640 x 480). The powerful zoom of the DMC-TZ5 and DMC-TZ4 also works with the recording function to capture the distant subject up close, allowing for more dynamic movie making"

Mode dial lost symbols from the TZ3, I see from the top view pictures. No Macro or Play on the new dial.
Wish there were pictures showing the back.
They don't seem to have any differences aside from the LCD and 8/9 megapixels.

720p HD movie mentioned on TZ5 but 1920x1080 size on TZ4 (1080i?) so maybe they both do 720p.

I will be waiting to find out if I should get the TZ3 (fits my requirements best) or get the TZ4 or 5. That Venus IV will need to work wonders on the extra megapixel(s) before I'd choose either of these new ones.

i hoped to see the lx2 succesors and the fz50 succesor ( if there will be a one )..any way the fx35 is the most interesting .. but the tz5 :S still a the tz3 but with better screen .. hope this new engine will be better than the last one ..its also nice to ssee that the L series now using lecia lens ... so > > NEXT

anyone know when will be the next announcement ?

Still image sizes indicate that one of the TZ1/TZ2/TZ3's most clever features - 28mm equiv. diagonal field of view on all aspect ratios seems to be gone. Now, 3:2 and 16:9 seem to be mere crop modes (also indicated by the fact that the aspect ratio can now be selected after the shot was taken). Especially disappointing now that the TZ5 offers 720p 16:9 movie recording, just that the wideangle end is noticably compromised.

Kind regards,
Martin

Still no viewfinder. For some subjects, it can be a pain to try to shot full tele without a viewfinder ; and if the sun hits the LCD (unless their new ones take care of that problem).

At least Optical zoom during Movies has been re-introduced - last (and only) seen on the TZ1 in the compacts ..

If the TZ3 performance over ISO 200 is as good as what I've seen in images from the FZ18, that would be a great move forward. Yes, I absolutely love my TZ3 at ISO 100 and 200. If it were as good even just up to ISO 400 I would be using it ALOT more than I do now.

TZ1 never had that. Furthermore it only seems gone on the TZ4 not on the TZ5 (seems dpreview accidentally mixed the resolution specs).

Only on TZ4.
