Hi there,

I just bought a used Canon 1D mk1 to go with my Canon 20D. The only issue is that it doesn't come with a charger! Can anyone suggest a cheap (possibly third party) charger. I can see lots of batteries on ebay but no chargers.

Thanks!

No 3rd party but it's the best price I could find.

I think I have an extra charger (probably still in the box) if you want it. For some reason the burglars forgot to take it when they stole all of my cameras. I'll check when I get home.

I'll be happy to pay you a fitting amount or will donate it to charity instead,

Can I send you my details?

Thanks,

Daniel

Let me make sure I actually have it first.

Good news. I have the charger and power cord ready to ship so you can email me your details (my email is in my profile).

Unfortunately due to basketball games, I won't be able to get it to UPS until Saturday, but it will be coming your way next week.

Many thanks for this offer. I really appreciate it :)

Makes you wonder if he got your burgled 1D :-)
Nope, my stolen Mark IIn (well, actually the insurance company's Mark IIn now) is sitting at H&B Jewelry and Loan in downtown Portland, OR. The crook got over a thousand bucks for it and the 70-200mm f2.8 lens that was on it. The transaction is on tape and they have the crook's thumbprint but due to Oregon's pro-criminal pawn shop laws that prevent recovery without a conviction, the camera and lens will sit there forever.

They did offer to sell it back to me for half the money they paid the crook.

Really! I'm sure they aren't worth that now, but a couple of years ago ...
If that seems like a lot, check out the price of a new one!

I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in f/8!

'No study to date has positively attributed all or part [of the climate change observed to date] to anthropogenic [man-made] causes.' - Deleted passage from peer-approved version of the IPCC Climate Change Report.

so what do you think about the 1D? i got one as well 2 days ago, to partner my 20D ;) simply wanted a 1D ....

Comparing the viewfinders of the 2 cams i cannot notice a difference. All the vf-talk is overrated imho ... one-shot AF seems to be the same as well, at least in good light. Shutter-lag, shooting-speed, confidence in AF seems better on the 1D. Batterylife, even without the grip, is better on the 20D, the control-layout as well is better on the 20D, and of course the IQ ...

Someone has his 1Ds stolen but the charger wasn't.

Another person buys a 1Ds from some dodgy place and it has no charger.

Hmmmmmmmm!

Seriously, It is a very generous offer though.

Sounds very similar to my wants. I decided to get the 1D as a partner to my 20D.

Battery life is worse than my 20D. Autofocus (oneshot) is clearly better in poor lighting but I've yet to use AI Servo properly. It does seem a little faster too in good light but nothing substantial. The VF is nice and big but I've never had an issue with the 20D's. I dearly miss my joystick for selecting AF points. IQ isn't so good on the 1D but I haven't played with it long... and... I know my 20D very well and how to make the process pictures from it. High ISO (esp3200) seems much worse on the 1D.

I've left my 20D at home for Christmas to force me to shoot with the 1D. We'll see how it goes but my feeling is that I might just relegate the 1D for sports :)
