info about the lens on the net. Has anyone got any experience of this lens Vivitar 80-200mm F4.5 auto zoom?

Is it a dead brick photographically or have i picked up a hidden gem? This is my first foray into the ambiguous world of maual and snatched the lens because of the price tag :)

Thanks

Anu

If so then it is a gem, if not it could go either way.

Not fully sure, but I believe it's a common zoom of normal quality. It should produce nice pictures stopped down, but not better then any of the other hundreds of telezooms out there :)

Give it a try, and have fun!

Hi David i cant see anything about series 1 on the lens but thanks for your input!!

Do have any idea on where i could find info on how to use this lens as it has a what i can only describe as a very large, free moving focusing ring that slides freely along the length of the barell?

Thanks

That is the old one-touch zoom technology. Push/pull to zoom, twist to focus.

Judging a photographer on the basis of equipment is like speculating one's physique from a gym pass.

Hi David,

Not all Series 1 Vivitar's are gems.

I just checked out that list.....i have a Kiron made Vivitar 75-205 f3.8 push/pull zoom which is very sharp wide open and has no ca in any situation. A lens that is known by lil but owned by several Pentax users i know. However it is no where on that list so i would not say it was a highly accurate list

There are many lists of many things that are either inaccurate or incomplete. Because your lens is not on the list does not mean that the list itself is inaccurate. Perhaps the maker of the list was not aware of your particular lens. Even the "new" Vivitar Zoom Super Wide Angle 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 Series 1 Manual Focus Lens for Pentax PK (sold by B&H) is not on the list. However, IT IS a Series 1 lens and I don't see many folks clamoring to buy it. So, in my opinion it must not be a "gem". Therefore, I stand by my statement that not all Vivitar Series 1 lenses are "gems".

Cheers.
