Olympus vs Canon forum = Canada vs US

Mac guys are smug because they know they have the superior system,
but always feel slightly picked on because of the dominance of the
Windows juggernaut that forces mediocrity and bug-ridden software
down everyone's throats.

Just replace Canon with Microsoft and Apple with Olympus, and we're
almost there :).
You're forgetting Linux, BSD's, Solaris...

When he came out with his "21 hits album", I noticed all the girls wanted the lyrics for the songs, so with a friend we "pooled" our money, bought te record and we had the darn thing playing at 16rpms so we could hear the words better...we were still going to school and taking classes...he was a hit with the girls believe me!

I got more interested in learning the language that way, I finished school and bought books to learn English and like they say, the rest was history. It was funny how I would pest the mormon missionaries that came to my neighborhood, just to practice speaking the language...

So Paul Anka, a canuck, provided the "incentive"

:-)

I only have one comment. Canada would lose!! :-)

Given the way the Canadian dollar and the US dollar are going in opposite directions, in a few years Canada won't have to fight the US - they can compete with the Chinese in buying it up one piece at a time.

And hey, didn't the US just agree to BORROW another 70 billion in debt to further fund the Iraqi war?!?!? Hey, good thinking guys, that will really help your currency...

Robert

N.B. - I won't debate the war itself, but to fund the entire thing on the backs of your own children's debt and future standard of living so that you can grant massive tax breaks currently to your richest 5% is just truely idiotic...unless you are in that 5% (or in their pocket). And the other 95% of you are just sheep to go along with it...

Pick the one that works best for you.

I have never heard 2 artists arguing about which brush manufacturer is best.

Nah, I work on NIX OS's for a living. If I were to transpose that OS to a camera system then it wouldn't be Olympus or Canikon - probably something like Sigma. Undervalued by the masses, but works well enough for those who appreciate good technology ;).

Well, in a sort of dark, twisted humor, at least you know where your borrowed money's going. Here in my third-world country, our government borrows money just so they can pocket most of it for themselves. And that's aside from the taxes we pay they're already pocketing. :D

I haven't been here long enough to be considered a "good ol' boy" nor
have I had any bannings (at least none that I can remember). As I
said, I'm still in training. I won't get my "good ol' boy"
certification for at least another 2 full years.
Hmm, I've been here for almost 7 years and haven't ever gotten even close to being a good old boy. What do you think I've been doing wrong. Any tips?

Canon is a large company, with a huge presence and extensive product line. Between Canon and Nikon, 80% of the dslr market is taken up. Of course owners of the smaller companies will compare themselves to the big dogs. We remind ourselves that we were right to use our own judgment and not just go with the flow. Not to disparage C/N's products, they're quite good. They wouldn't be dominating the market if they weren't. Some of us find the unique characteristics of Olympus to be more to our liking. And, to a small degree, maybe we just like being different. Nah, we just love beautiful photographs.

As for the forums - be sure you're comparing the right forums. You're coming from the Canon P&S forum. And like the Olympus P&S forum, it's a very polite place. Over in the Oly forum, several of the regulars got together and bought a deserving member an E1. Now, that's congenial. And there was another equally heartwarming act of generosity a few months ago. However, if you visit the Canon SLR forums, or the Nikon SLR forums, you'll see even more shouting, pixel peeping, spec reciting, troll accusing, and vitriol outpouring as you might find here.

I wonder why that is? Why the P&S forums just don't seem to draw the negative, unpleasant responses and whine posts that the SLR forums do?

Because that's where people start out. It takes much practice to gain those other skills. :-)

And they'd be too stupid or apathetic do do anything about an important issue. (MPP anyone?)
