What was your first camera? SLR or DC and what was it?

My first camera was a Sony Mavica FD91. I just sold it on eBay to
help pay for my F707.

It was a great camera for me, although it didn't perform too well
in low light. My favorite thing about it was the 14x optical zoom,
and that's one thing I missed when I got the F707.

After using the F707 for just a few days, I picked up the FD91 to
say goodbye to it before I boxed it up for eBay. It felt so bulky
and odd after using the F707. Even the controls which I had become
quite accustomed to after 3 years felt out of place compared to the
F707.

A major upgrade for me, and I'm very happy with the DA.

Jared, I still have my FD-91. I have had several people try to buy it from me. But even though it's bulky and also the controls have become strange. You never know when you could use a back-up. By the way, what did you get for yours. :-P Shayron

I was talking with several in a group today. We were talking aoout
photography and everyone seemed to enjoy discussing which was our
very first camera owned. Two had never owned an SLR a few told me
their first camera was a Poloroid Swinger. lol

So, please take a moment and, let us all know what was your first
camera, an SLR or Digicam?

And, which camera model was it.... if you can remember?

Last, if you've had several cameras.... which was your favorite?

It will be interesting to know.

Thank you,
Mark J.

My first was a Brownie Hawkeye(Kodak) then a rangefinder Argus C3 then on to a Minolta slr 101 used that one for over 30 years--still use it--my favorite to this day and now a cybershot P50. It sounds like my cybershot is outdated when I read about the digitals you all are using

When I was a little kid, my dad gave me this big boxy black plastic thing that took only 120 film. I guess back then, 120 film was a lot less money to buy and develop.

It was a fixed focus, fixed aperture, fixed shutter speed camera. It had no means to prevent you from double exposing the film, or forgetting to expose it at all.

I have no idea what it was. Perhaps it sounds familiar to someone?

Sorry I was away for a while today folks.

Danny..... you have an uncanny memory for dates related to the ownership of your camers! Very good.

I was not surprised your digital was your favorite!

Be good,
Mark J.
Nice to see you smiling Mark :-)) Well done.

First camera was a Yashica GX45 in 1969.

My favorite equal's of all time and still are, the 35mm SLR's 1976
Canon EF, 1986 Canon T90 and the Nikon FE. Still got them and
probably always will.

Digital has to be what I use now. Sony CD-1000 because it gets
closer than anything I have ever seen with what I put on the front
:-))

All the very best Mark.

Danny.

I am truly amazed at the detail of recall related to the date or acquisition of peoples cameras. Jeez..... I can't remember the exact year I bought that Poloroid "Swinger" but, it was definately A.D. LOL

Thanks for participating.

When i was knee high to a grasshopper i had a dinky little 110 but
dont remember what it was. I do remember i left it everywhere and
it got stolen or something.
But my very first camera that had any meaning was a Nikkormat FT
that was given to me from my idol (my uncle). I believe the time
frame back them was aprox 72/73

From then on my visions were pretty well focused on Nikon products
and i later on purchased a FM and FE body and various lenses and a
MD-12 motordrive and other accessories. 8 years ago i was finally
able to buy the camera of my dreams and that was a Hasselblad
501CM. My blad would be my favorite and thats probably because of
the cost(i handle it with kid gloves) but its the least used now
because of the cost of processing.
For me digital was the only way to go without worrying about
'wasting' costly film on everyday explorial shoots.
Now, my Sony is the most used camera of my collection and im
pondering eBaying my old Nikon gear.
It will be interesting to know.

Thank you,

Hi Bob -

It sounds like you had one of the Kodak Brownies;
but if you did, it probably took 126 roll film (similar
to 120, but not quite the same).

A Zenith M 35mm SLR made in Russia.
then Fujica ST-801, Olympus OM 1, OM 2,
Nikon F801, F3, F5 (as a gift)

Now, Sony DSC-S50 and F707

Ok Cindy.... now you gotta tell us how you came up with the name BoB!!

I mean, it could have been winky, shutter... oh wait, someone has that one already around here. lol
When I was 3 or 4 I got a pink plastic camera, with Barbie stickers
on it...I filled it up and then opened the film and ruined it. My
requests for more film were met with "When you're old enough to
take care of the camera..."

I went on a trip to Washington DC when I was 6, and got a panoramic
camera for that...still have it but haven't used it in forever.

Have gone through several disposable cameras for every summer
vacation with my grandmother to Victoria, or Santa Barbara, or
wherever.

The S70 is my first "real" camera, and my favorite of all of them.
I've become pretty attached to it, (his name is bob :-)).

Maybe that's it. 126 is bigger than 35mm, right?

You know what..... I bet it would REALLY be fun, if you could share a digital photo of those two cameras. FIrst.... many have never even seen a "box camera' and, I must admit.....the other one is probably a bit before my time as well.

Could you do that for us?

First Camera was a Kodak 110. I still have a photo album of pics I took as a kid. Loved reading about the flash....had forgotten about them.

Then came years of point and shoot cameras that lasted about 6 mo each.

From there:
Canon EOS Elan IIe (first and only SLR)
Sony P1 (first dig cam)
Sony Trv20 (camcorder...but have some pretty good stills from it)
and of course....
My new 707!

Thanks for the thread...enjoyed reading it. You can tell a lot about a person from there cameras ;)

Ann.... why would anyone laugh? You're like the third or fourth person to say they had a box camera. Wild. And I thought the 8 track tape was old......

Just kidding.
