I was out photographing a variety of subjects with my D60 and 100-400L IS today, here are some shots:

Handheld, 1/500 @ f5.6, ISO 200

Tripod, 1/500 @ f8, ISO 100, fill flash with 550EX

Tripod, Canon 500D close-up lens, 1/125 @ f8, ISO 100, gold reflector, converted with High saturation

Great shots! The 100-400 is in a class by itself - I love mine.

It is absolutelly great!

This is what I love on photography... Only have Canon 75-300 IS lens, but I believe can do as good pictures as you did.

Can you tell me what are your experience with that close up macro lens 500D?

Petr,

The 500D works great with the 100-400L IS; the minimum focusing distance is greatly reduced. Your working distance is only around 2 feet or so, not a lot of latitude there. But you can achieve excellent magnification at full zoom.

I don't think it will work with the 75-300 IS lens.

Mohit,

If you're still in Avon, I've recently moved from Raleigh, NC back to Connecticut. I'm in Unionville now and pass thru Avon on the way to/from work every day. I have a D-60 on order and sport the EOS-1D as the primary (D-60 or EOS-1D will be a second body). Send me an email if you're up for a Saturday morning shoot sometime.

Best,

Ryan,

How about that? I remember you mentioning that your parents were in West Hartford. Yup, I'm still in Avon, so you're just the next town over. I'll email you ...

Anybody else in northern CT? We can do a Canon SLR Forum get-together :)

Hi Mohit!

I was just in Fairfield, CT last Thursday, but I live just outside Chicago and don't get out east very often. I'm still waiting for my D60, though... :(

C'mon, admit it - you're just trying to get me to spend the 1500 for the 100-400 on top of the 2k+ I'm going to spend on the D60! ;-)

Go for it, you know you want to! Seriously, depending on what you're shooting (and the typical conditions), the extra reach of the 100-400L (over the 75-300IS that you have), along with the sharpness and wonderful color and contrast, makes this an excellent lens.

It's a good chunk of change, that's for sure, but what the hey ... :)

Great shots Mohit! So is it safe to say you are happy with the D60?

I got a call from Allen, should have my D60 on Wednesday, knock on wood. Thanks for the tip.

They would NEVER be able to supply the cameras to those waiting for them. Nice work dude.....

Dave,

Yup, love the D60! I can imagine your anticipation - hope it's there Wednesday, that's pretty good!!

I assume most of what I'm seeing in your pics is due to your skills as a photographer. But having seen some before/after shots where the same photographer did shots with a different lens and then with the 100-400, it seems visibly crisper.

As I explained to my wife last night (kind of setting the stage), to me it's sort of like getting a new vision correction from your eye doctor. You THOUGHT everything looked fine, but when the correction was tweeked a bit you realized just how much your eyes had weakened.
Maybe if I sold my wifes embroidery machine ...
