I think the color and saturation in the rocks and lighthouse look great but for an HDR the sky behind the trees in the top right and the cloud in the middle of the fame seem a bit bright. Were the sky and water replaced with single images to prevent motion or blur?

Hello Wick... thanks. Nothing was replace in the picture. This was from a 5 shot bracketed exposure on a tripod.. so there was not much motion blur to speak of.

I'll see if I can correct the tone mapping.

Thanks again...

Allthough it has nice colors, it just looks too fake for my taste.
Some may like these "overdone" HDR, but it is looks too "put
together".

Thanks for the cc... I understand what you mean... and this was the look I was going for. The other one which was well exposed all around was just to bland for my taste.

It does look a bit fake though doesn't it? Like something was added or cropped in. :)

Oh well... can't please all i guess. Thanks for looking......

I use it myself often. But just dont overdo it. But like you say it is a matter of taste.

Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded...

Excellent HDR. It's art people, everything does not have to look realistic. The world is not black and white, but you don't see people on these forums complaining that the B&W pics look "fake" or unrealistic.

I never let anyone know if I use HDR or not. It's how the pic turns out that is important and this one looks pretty OK. I would have worked a bit more on the final version tho, there are a couple of rocks on the right that are just plain burnt out...Not so objectionable in the clouds where it is to be expected but I like my highlights to have texture...Just a suggestion...Elery

Hi Leung,

I like the overall effect of HDR in your picture. Contrast and saturation
are not over the top.
The highlights in the clouds are still a little blown out. If you shot NEF, you
can probably make a darker version (-1.5) in NX to use in your sequence.

I am still experimenting with Photomatix and the single RAW method. Using a
-1.5 normal and +1.5 version from the same file works surprisingly well for
landscapes.
With tonemapping settings of: strength 40 and color saturation 50, I get very
natural looking results:

Cheers,

André

This was my first thought, as well. Overall the composition is nice, but the image has a fake quality to it.

Consider taking a look at this thread for an example of a exceptionally well done HDR:

Good point. I'll work on it a little bit so that it doesn't burn out. I see what you mean. Thanks for that very useful tip!

Thanks Andre... very useful information. I haven't done much HDR... and this is really the first one that I can really speak of.

I have always liked how good processed HDR images can look. This one is not quite there yet... but if I practice I can get it right.

Thanks again Andre!

Highlight ishues in a HDR? How did that happen Mr. Leong. Other
than that minor glitch, this is lovly.

Morris
Thanks Morris.... I dunno, I bracketed, I merged and viola! Highlights! Isn't that kool? :)

This is the first HDR I have done... give me a break! :D Just kidding.. I'm working on it. Hopefully I'll have it mastered at some point.
