I recently sold all of my canon dslr gear (needed the cash). To tide me over, I picked up a G9 to shoot with.

So . . . the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce ordered a bunch of my images for a publication they are doing. I've been shooting around the city for about a year or so now.

And whadya know, they picked two of my -- very recently shot -- G9 images alongside the other dslr stuff. Whooohoooo, the camera (and accessories) have nearly paid for themselves.

Here are the shots:

1/40s f/8.0 at 7.4mm iso100 (with the internal ND filter)

1/1250s f/4.5 at 36.8mm iso100

and very nice images. I think, under the right circumstances, they can be used without apologies. For other things, it just can't cut it, but when it works--great. These obviously did and really nice 'seeing'.

Diane,

Always appreciate your postings, but do not fully understand this one.

Evidently I don't either

Edit: Or maybe I didn't understand David's post. I think what Diane was saying is that under the right circumstances one can get pictures out of the G9 that approach dSLR quality and are commercially viable... after seeing a few threads that are infused with some strange interpersonal dynamics I was afraid I was missing something ... hopefully not.

I am planning to get the G9 as well.

They are very nice pics, Bruce.

What post processing (or at all :) that you have done to those pics?

Both were done in RAW, cleaned up in Neat Image, some levels adjustements, etc.

I am one of those who sat out the G7 and jumped on the G9 because of RAW.

Ok,

I can go with this. Just that it seemed aliitle out of character. After all. In the good eyes of a photographer as we have here, any camera can do really :)

Both great shots.....but that 2nd one is awesome! Quite a capture.

Thanks for sharing your good news - and the pics here.

I also have the G9 and love it

No, that's what I meant. Yes, in the hands of good photographers, most any camera can do except for things like double spreads, printing very large, certain applications where a high resolution, large pixel DSLR will work better.

I also meant--even though he wasn't out shooting for a particular assignment, he did a great job of finding just the right shots that would be terrific on a brochure which is what he sold the images for. He knows his city well and where to find great shots--and how to capture them.

Just reread the post and think this is what threw people off

"I think, under the right circumstances, they can be used without apologies." I should have said--the G9 can be used under the right circumstances for the right application without apology--NOT Bruce's images LOL. I really liked his photos--and they would have been terrific with any camera--just that for some printing applications, the G9 wouldn't have worked as well. They get a bit crunchy when you look at them 100% and if you have to use them for large printing jobs (full page, double trucks, etc.) they won't work as well as nice smooth big pixels from a DSLR--or even great big pixels from digital MFs LOL.

It would also be interesting to take a look at a couple of pics chosen, that had been made with a dslr... just for comparison...
