AF540FGZ - the "light" switch

Thanks for some very usefull information.

I was using a 540 handheld and
wirelessly trigger by the pop-up flash. The pop-up flash was dialed
down to -2 ev. I did this so that it wouldn't provide much light.
Anyhow, I discovered that the camera's flash ev control provides
control to both the pop-up flash and the remote flash. What a handy
featrue. >
Thanks again,
Dave
Thanks for that dave, i didn't know that. Does the flash EV control (via fn button on K10D) also control hotshoe mounted flashguns as well as pop-up ? I've been using it for the pop-up for some time, but don;t have a 'modern' flash.

Is there a way to assign the flash EV control to a thumbwheel like for ISO, if so which firmware version ?

This is a neat feature that I didn't know about until I was trying to figure out why the flash wasn't working the way I thought it should. I thought I had the popup flash set to -2.0ev and the wireless flash set to -0.5 ev. I was ending up with not much flash in my photo. With some adjusting I figured out that the -2.0ev set by the fn button & e-dial was also adjusting the wireless flash. So I was getting -2.5 ev out of the wirelss flash and -2.0 ev out of the popup flash. No wonder I was not getting much flash lighting the photo and the shadows was not the way I thought would be.

I guess this is why one should take a lot of photos in all situations using all settings so that the user can figure out what the camera is doing. In some ways old manual everything was easier to understand and control.

Not that I know of. This would be another nice feature to add to a fw update.

Thanks for the tip!!

That first trick using a remote/or other light to trigger works perfectly with my Sigma 500 Super too in slave mode (C0 SL) mode. I imagine it would work great for any slave capable flash. Is was just using a TV remote. It would be great for special effects on long exposure with multiple flashes.
possbilities are endless. Thanks again.
