I've seen your shots on PBase, I understand what you are looking for.
Here is a better example. This is just a snapshot with the a100 and kit lens 18-70.

Here is the unbelievable 100% crop of that - or you can get the original full size on the Pbase site, but here is what you would see of the suit:

This, I think, is why we are concerned about the a700, that it be AT LEAST this good.

a bit OT but anyway..

This is a perfect shot to me. I cannot comment on the camera (I have 7d) but the lens is stellar for sure! I always thought this little kit zoom is much underrated. From an MTF chart I saw recently follows that the lens is almost as sharp as 16-80 CZ, for example. The only weak point is a big difference between the radial and tangential resolutions at the borders. This is interesting because I can't see any defects on your shot.

I wonder if you have ever seen strong aberrations in the corners with your 18-70?

Best regards,
Alex.

Thanks, and no, I haven't noticed any flaws with this lens. It stays at fairly high f-stops, so the sharpness is there, but not very fast lens. The 50/1.7 is very good for low light, but not as sharp.

This example shot was just a snapshot - no extra care, no tripod. May have had a big flash on the camera to freeze the camera movement, if any, but this was not a test shot. But it sure shows the resolution of the a100 - and I have a lot more like it!

!!! very nice observation

Interestingly, FOTOtidningen.se compares APS-C digital and full-frame film lenses at 30 and 20 lp/mm, respectively. And they look similar, ie APS-C lenses have higher absolute resolution! (On practice, this simply means that a digital kit lens should provide same quality as a film kit lens on a print of the same size.)
