This is a two part post:

1. How can I reset the microdrive to start numbering at 0001 for each new job? Part way through each job I download the images and erase those on the card and then shoot the rest of the job. I want the 2nd half of the job to continue numbering in sequence so the total job will be numbered 0001 through the end. Thus I don't believe I can just turn off the function that remembers the last image number on the card.

2. Other than a photoshop batch action, is there a better method for renumbering all of the images of a job?

I'm using a Mac PowerBook to download the images.

Thanks for the help.

First let me apologize for not answering your question. I don't bother to do this and have no idea how to do it.

I just keep separate folders on my hard drive and rename the images when I'm done and when everything is back on the computer. It saves time when I need it the most...during the shoot.

The numbering is done by the camera and thus in order to start at #1 you have to use "Reset" in the S1.

I prefer to renumber the files in my PC as needed. Otherwise if you do a search for a file you're gonna find you have a lot of duplicate numbers.

I can't speak for Mac software but the Exif Viewer that is bundled with the S1 Windows software will renumber images for you. I haven't used it in a long time but as I recall it was fairly flexible. You could add a (limited) subject name/title and specify whether it should add the date in a few different forms.

ACDSee has a really nice renumbering scheme and that's about the only thing I liked about it. (But now that I think about it that's Win software not Mac)--Mike Flood

Dear Bill,

Isn't there a setting in the menus of the camera were you can change how it must number images ? I think that I remember such a thing and I think you can set it on continous or refresh or something, take a look in your manual it must be explicated there. If you can't find your manual and you mention it I will take a look in mine, but have to search it first.

With kind regards,

You can set it to remember the number on the card so as you start taking images it starts with the number is sequence from where it left off.

Or you can set it to start over again.

But I can't find where I can reset it to start over and then set it to remember where it left off while in the middle of a shoot.

Bill,

If you choose the setting in the Camera Menu "Frame No. = On" then the S1 will resort to continuous numbering. It will remember the last number and if you put in empty media it will read from its internal memory and continue with the next higher number.

However if it finds a number on the media that you insert, then it will continue from that number. To make sure that the camera sees that number I just push "Play" after inserting the media.

Hence in your case if you erase on your media all the images except the last one then the numbering will continue from that number. When the media is connected to your computer you can easily delete all files except one and renumber it to any number you desire. The camera will always read that number and start numbering from that one. Again to make sure the camera sees that number on the media and puts it into its internal memory, just push "Play"

Then whenever you want to start from "0001" again. Just set "Frame No. = Off"

I hope this helps
