Earth, Wind & Fire

This challenge is for photos that capture any of the elements: Earth, Air and Fire.

You can combine one, two or all three of the elements in your photo. Also your photo could show how mankind/people have harnessed the power of the three elements.

For some ideas on what you could shoot: Tractors ploughing, Workmen, kites, windmills, candles, Lanterns. Ideas that combine the elements could be blacksmith workshops, furnaces, glassblowing.

As these elements could provide a large range of different images, the voters will decide on which images are on topic.

If taking pictures of fire, please think 'Safety', especially if there are children or pets about.

Have Fun everyone.
-Maurice

First, congrats on a very deserved win. That amazing shot was impossible not to notice.

Now, if I'm reading you correctly, you are looking for earth, wind, and fire as in forces of nature? If this is correct then simple landscapes are not what you're after unless they detail a "force" as you defined? Even though technically a landscape is a picture of earth it shows the "power" our earth is capable of?

Sounds like a great idea that should be fun.

Thanks, I got there in the end, struggled a bit to find the winning thread and was not sure what to do with the sequence of the galleries and who rearranges them! I had a couple of distractions from family visiting which slowed me down a bit! but I got there in the end!, hopefully I had'nt missed anything!

Maurice

That's true, I'd prefer more closeness with earth as in the soil etc, that gives life, rather then the earth as in the planet. It is about the elements!. But some of the landscapes that shows trees that have been distorted by wind, would be another way of showing the power of air as an element and the power of nature!

We should get a big variation in pictures and people will interpret the topic in different ways, it will be the voters who decide what is on topic.
I didn't get much sleep last night thinking of what pictures to take! :)

Yes you're right! there will be some pictures that are obviuosly off topic and I'll have to remove them to pending! I knew this could get hard! :(

I think with a lot of topics there is always a 'grey area' where peoples interpretations are different. So I will try to clarify my requirements for the earth as an element! :)

Terrific images and worthy of the wins!

Maurice, your new topic should provide lots of wonderful images and Exhibition is already filling up with great shots - looking forward to seeing all the entries and interpretations of the topic!

Some people are like a Slinky...not really good for anything, but
you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

I'm taking a trip to the Rocky Mts. and Northern Plains at the end of the month and am thinking that I should get a good all-purpose lens for landscapes and for the closer shots I like to do. As I'll be travelling with non-photographers, I'd prefer not to be changing lenses more than necessary. Anyone have a favorite you'd recommend? I'm retired, so price is also a consideration.

BTW my current lenses are the Rebel kit lens and the Canon 75-300 without IS.

I was interrupted and put my previous request in the wrong place. Sorry about that! But at least it offers me an opportunity to congratulate the winners of the last challenge and to say that this one sounds like a lot of fun. ;-)
