Poll: how much formal photography education does everyone on here have?

A couple workshops at newspaper conventions. Lots and LOTS of online reading about technique.

I make my living as a newspaper reporter/photographer with a decent sideline of weddings and sports photography. Oh - and a few photojournalism awards.

I've never really understood what a four year fine arts degree would teach me that I couldn't teach myself. More importantly - for the cost of two of those years, I could have all the gear I could possibly ever need.

I would never discourage education, but I treat photography more as a trade, with craftsmanship, than as a formally educated profession like a nurse. To that end, I even have something of an apprentice!

Nice shot over on the Pbase site bro.

But seriously, a D40 on the end of that lens is like an expensive end cap :)

The D40 is sooo small... especially on that lense!

Zero. And I'm the president of the photography club at my university.

The key is...I walked out.

I dug out the old post and read through it again...I would have walked out too, and probably not as politely as you did.....young bull again!

The last time I went shooting with a group, the guy "leading" it suggested using the highest f-stop available for landscapes to maximize DOF and sharpness (f/38 for the shot he was taking on his D70). I asked him about diffraction and he replied that he focuses on the creative and doesn't worry too much about the technical details like that......WTFO?

I split mid-morning, just couldn't take it anymore!

12 minutes to press conference :-)
