Post your photos that POP

I love the first photo. The car appears to be sharp, nicely exposed
and the colors are vibrant. The sky however, is completely blown out.
I think it looks great. Did you plan on allowing the sky to go white
for effect? Secondly, car appears to have strong contrast and
pronounced blacks. Was this OOC or did you enhance the contrast and
/ or blacks in PP?
With all due respect, is this a joke or simply sarcasm? Where's the hidden camera?

First, thanks for your kind words...

I consciously shot the car this way because the light was VERY FLAT and sky was cloudy and grey. I seldom like the effect of a blown background, but decided it might work well here.

I did a LOT more than 'enhance contrast and blacks in PP.' Here's a roll-over from "nearly" the beginning. If you find a camera that can do this OOC, tell me- I'd want one.

No joke or hidden camera. I'm just new to photography and probably phrased my question poorly. I assumed that the image was enhanced in PP. I was questioning what you might have done in camera to get the shot and what you did later to enhance the image. I have seen a number of car photos similar in style to yours and want to understand how it was composed, photographed and post processed. The techniques may seem obvious to more experience photographers, but they remain a mystery to me.

Thanks for the before and after roll-over. This really helps me to see what the camera captured and how much the PP can make a good picture into a really engaging picture.

I understand that blown highlights should be avoided or minimized, but in this case it seemed to have been done on purpose and worked out well. I rather ask a stupid sounding question and learn something than be quiet and remain ignorant :-)

My most humble apologies if my response seemed arrogant or abrupt. I don't mean/intend to come across that way.

I realize we ALL are constantly learning and anyone who says different is one I couldn't have a long conversation with. To get a better scope of what available light was at this car show, feel free to visit my flickr "transpo" set. I have about 75 images from the 2007 Dream Machines show in Half Moon Bay, CA.

The look I was going for is a "Lucis" look. You can check this link if you want some sick PP techniques:

See if Ruji in Los Angeles inspires you to look at cars differently... He certainly inspires me!

I was shooting an ocean scene when out the corner of my eye this guy drifted in, landed for a split second on the fence and took off again. Below his feet is a 100ft cliff and the ocean.
cheers

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

I agree with some of your points about this shot, it was dead center cause it was taken VERY quickly. We had just walked down to waikiki beach from our condo and I noticed the boat just entering the disk of the setting sun. Had I recomposed one way or the other the shot would have included a large cement breakwater to the right or a big ugly dock to the left. If you have been there you probably know exactly where I was standing. I might go back and crop out the overly dark foreground as you mentioned, I kinda like that idea. In your crop the sky seems to have lightened up considerably, I kinda like the deeper orange but thanks for the ideas. A friend of mine swears that object in the water is a dolphin, but I dont think it was, I think its a buoy or maybe a surfer.
