No specs as yet.

Hmmm, have to say no shocker they are 12mp for the top NV camera...but its a little worrying all the same.

It would be nice to see Samsung chop down their product range, and make it easier for buyers. As it is far far too many models out there (though some neat deals has to be said)

Trying to avoid too many mp myself, I think samsung would do well to streamline their models..and have a few heavy hitters in there, and some real wide angle stuff too.

Would also like to see the "real" image stabilization brought to more models..rather than the digital one.

Just my thoughts on this..samsung have great potential, just they need to really sit down and "think" things out some more.

Samsung's 12MP announcement comes just days after Fuji's (F50fd). As Barry knows, the Fuji forum is currently full of lamentations predicting awful noise. Fuji's sensor will be 1/1.6"; does anyone know how large Samsung's will be?

The Samsung is 1/1.72" according to: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0707/07073002samsungnvseries.asp

The most interesting of all, however, is that NV8 packs 8megapixel in SURPRISE SUPRISE ... NOT 1/2.5" sensor, but a big one - 1/1.76".

The question is - are these sensors made by Sony ?

And which new camera has 8 megapixel on such a large (for 2007) sensor with this megapixel count? I hope this is not a typo.

Makes one wonder if it's not all the same sensor in the three camera's....

Anyway, I love the opportunity to show that MP above 8 are not needed.

Out of the three I would definitely get the 8MP one, even with a smaller difference in price tag. Heck, even for the same price.

Now that the specs are out...

Larger sensor (a bit) for all

But it suggests all are the same..just the mp difference! Surely that being the case, then the 8mp one is going to be better at high ISO, 12mp is pushing things too far IMHO.

I cannot imagine that is the only difference, after all looking at the current line up..some have optical stabilization, some a larger screen etc etc..

Cannot find any more info, either on samsungs site, or any other photo place online.

I have a feeling that samsung are not using sony sensors on some of their models.

I note the optics start off at 34mm...but none go much over the 100mm mark, currently a few NV's have longer reach.

That 28mm sure would be nice ;-)

What saves samsung maybe, and what has so far..is they do seem to be getting good..plus their prices are much nicer in the uk than most..

Not sure about these NV's though..I would look at the 8mp one maybe..but then it wont really do a lot that my L700 doesnt do.

It's interesting that there is no NV7 replacement at the moment, but maybe it wasn't as big success as the NV10 (and maybe NV3). Or they plan another announcement in a week or two. It's strange as well to have only VGA movies even if i85, L83T and L730 all have 800x592 @ 20fps. Maybe sensor limitation or again we'll see even more models? For 2007 until now Samsung Camera announced 20 different cameras or a 1-2 more.

Also still no OIS.

Strange as the "Schneider" 5X zoom on the L85 etc is an excellent optic with only a bit of PF as a downer - certainly none of the corner/edge softness and vigging of mainstream attempts. you'd think that they'd continue to make use of it..

28mm is hard to do well, Canon fail almost every time with blurry corners and a rubbish long end - Pan do well with WA but it's what's behind the lens which is the issue there .. Dunno how Sam would fare

What would be an NV7 replacement...what stands out on it? The OIS isn't as good as the competitors, the lens is VERY GOOD. I do however find it quite comfortable to carry around in the hand, its almost always read to shoot, the lens acting as a convenient grip between the thumb and forefinger.

Having just got an NV7 at a very low UK price, I'm very pleased with it. I must echo the problems of noise that many reviewers and owners have commented on. I always liked grain in film, so this isn't a real problem for me. What I do find with such a large lens is C.A. ( purple fringing) is kept to a minimum. Its a shame they didn't put a 5/6MP 1/2.5" CCD in the camera as I also find this is enough for most occasions. It's not that bad at all in normal lighting conditions, the camera continues to impress, I think this is definately down to the quality of the lens.

The OIS is very noisy with a piezo type buzzing during operation that is almost embarrassing. It doesn't perform particularly well...but does work in some scenarios.

So what to improve on the camera or leave alone? A lower noise sensor would be nice, an on screen histogram too. I wouldn't like it to disappear from the range, but it could do with improvement. Its a shame the lens doesn't cover the new larger sensor size with a wider angle.

Folks what models have them? I think a few do...

Another oddball samsung choice.. lack of them..

Do the NV's not have them either?

There's still 28 hours left, so we may have more than 9 in July :-)

It's interesting that all three cameras are basically centered on the NV10. The NV7 OPS sort of lives on in the L77, and NV3 wasn't that much different from the i-series anyway (other than the styling).

It is disappointing that we havent' seen anything more advanced, or even a 5x lens, let alone wide, histogram, PSAM, etc. But it could be a sign of business-savvy people making decisions. Assuming the NV10 did much better than then NV7/NV3 (thus the NV11), they figured if we have a successful model, why not build on it? A lot of Fuji people would be happier if the F50fd was available with the 12mp, 9mp and the "magic" 6mp sensor as three different models.

I think Samsung had enough momentum to have a good shot at the #3 spot worldwide. But the $80 CMOS camera may help Kodak defend the #3 spot.

The L85 has - it's in the OSD menu, select it and you get full display info and a live histo .. BTW do the later cams have that Echoed "Surround sound" Bleep when you select items ;-) .. the L85 doesn't have audible focus confirmation which is a pain sometimes ..

I see they added a " cafe' " mode too! Gasp! lol

Seriously though, I was expecting a bit more from samsung on this one...

In my opinion, the histogram is the most important feature of the L85 that they left out of the S850, otherwise an almost identical camera with almost identical firmware. Why did they go to the trouble to disable it? Only some random product marketer at Samsung knows for sure.

Its a strange move indeed..hey I aint sweating about it on the L700 I got, but its a feature that is handy, and has a use for the user. I dont think its hard to do...either a live or a review histogram.

Maybe a minor point, but there are a few areas samsung can improve on, this is one of them.

To be honest, I woudn't touch any Sumsung with a barge pole.

Too much noise, inaccurate focusing and terible colour saturation and that sums up my NV10 ( not to mention the intermitant faults and some stupid function controls)and no firware fixes from Samsung on the NV10.

I bought it in a moment of madness and apart for thr build quality it is Sh ite!
