The only cable release I can find in the UK is for the E10. Will this be OK for the E20?--Richard Hunt

Sure, they are one and the same.
Hi Richard, Yes they are the same, look for prices on the web, try Jessops outside Canterbury, on Sturry Road opp Asda, for a price match...you might be lucky.

Best of luck.

Tried to get your email address from poster, but on go.

BTW live in Chatham

Howdy Richard and Mike.

I know Kent is a rather large area, but I was interested in knowing if either of you were near Margate?

The reason I ask, is my mom grew up there during WWII. The last time I was there was back in '75 so I'm sure it's changed since. Well, maybe not Dreamland.

I have an Uncle who still lives in Cliftonville. Hoping to get over there this coming May and see him atleast once more.

Hello

I broke my cable release last week when I was out taking pictures at fernwood.

http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292174167

All that work and no commment. I was wondering what people thought of my second picture in the album. I thought that came out the best.

I broke the connection where you go to plug it in. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could send this in for repair or am I stuck spending another $50 dollars or so to get another one. I really liked this little piece of hardware. This was also the first time I used it.

Any help would be appreciated

Michael

Hi Michael

Liked the second picture very much - the truble with out door lights the wind, however light, always makes then very blurred in close up. Long distance doesn't have that effect.

You should think yourself lucky at $50 in Uk they are £62 inc postage ie $87.

Cant you say to the shop that it was faulty!!!!

Won't help with this one, but someone recommended NOT to fasten the connector with the screw cap, but just plug it in. The idea was to avoid breaking it but just let it pull out if you accidentally tug or trip on the cord.

Since at least one other person here reported breaking the connector, I would try to get them to replace it as a "faulty design".

I would like to build a time lapse controller for the E10/E20,
primarily to trigger the camera more often than once every minute.

Has anybody tried to find a manufacturer for the Remote Cable Release
connector? Can someone who actually has a Remove Cable Release
check for any logo's or other identifying marks on their connector?

Does anyone know by what name(s) this type of connector might be described in a connector catalog?

(If nothing else, perhaps a closeup photo might help?)

Thanks for any help.

David,

I've been out for a while and just saw this. At one time I tried to find a source for the connector. I sent closeup photos to several electronic engineers and suppliers with no luck.

Mine broke too, this week. With very little pressure on it. The connector that goes into the camera is quite brittle -- it takes very little to break it. In researching posts I saw that at least two others had the same problem in recent months. And no one has found a replacement for the plug. I think there's a design problem here.

I need a remote for the E-10. Would you folks tell me where I can find one in the US
Thanks

Sure Dwayne -

The only wired remote that I know of for the E-10/20 is the RM-CB1 made by Olympus. I got one at Adorama; I see that B&H also sells them:

It's about $53. It's a very useful tool -- much more responsive than the infrared remote, and it does work in the Manual mode (unlike the infrared). The two drawbacks are (1) you are tethered to the camera, and (2) the plug is VERY fragile.

Drat. I was just about to order one. Just how did it fail?? Did it get tugged on or pulled out and the connection broke? Is it something that I can be aware of and take measures to keep it from happening?? I will be using it in a controlled situation.

Diane -

I think the elsewhere-stated advice of not screwing the plug into the camera is good -- then the cord is more likely to pull free if any tension is put on it. I had tried using it both ways. At the time mine broke, it was screwed in -- and I did pull on the cord as I reached for something -- but with nowhere hear the amount of force I would have expected to cause a break. So in summary, don't screw it in, and treat it like a fragile piece of glass.
