Some of you were interested (holding your breath in anticipation I'm sure !) to see my Greece images from a recent trip. So below are the links. I have separated my very favorite images into galleries by location, rather than putting them in one big gallery. I welcome any suggestions as to editing , as well as alerting me to typos in my brief commentary under each image. Almost all tlhe images were shot with my 24-105 L, except for a few with my little Pro 1 (all noted below the image).

FYI, I took my 17-40 L with me (against my better judgment, being a "one lens" trip person), but after the first morning, it stayed locked in thle suitcase. Too much trouble and hassle to constantlly change lenses, and I never felt constrained by the 24-105 L re: the wide end.

My Athens and Delphi galleries are mnore about historical and archaeological sites, with some "local color grab shots" as well. For the record, I happen to love seeing all the scaffolding around the Acropolis. It makes for an interesting juxtaposition of the ancient monuments and modern ongoing restoration.

The Mykonos and Santorini galleries are local color and there is a LOT of it !

I often "see" abstractions in various subjects, so you'll find quite a bit of those images especially in the Santorini gallery.

Thanks guys for looking !

Great galleries, Carolyn!!! The 24-105 is a superb travel lens - it was my most used in Thailand (www.pbase.com/fintax/thailand), but it's now taking a back seat (until I get the 5D) to the 17-55 and 70-200 4 IS - I love these!

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for looking fintax. I agree about the 24-105 L. I had a lot of nay-sayers re: using it in Greece, as several people on the forum thought it wouldn't be wide enough, but it worked fine for me. I've always liked images that were more "focused" (no pun intended) re: isolating the subject, as opposed to broad viewpoints whenever possible, so the lens worked great in Greece for me.

Thanks kfor looking. You'll get there... don't expect to be alone though ! At the sites, crowds were quite manageable, mabye because we went fairly early in the season, but the transfers between islands by fast ferry were horrible due to the crowds and lack of organization at the docks.

Great gallery!
Hope I will visit Greece someday.

Yes, I did use the CPL all the time outdoors during the day. And I appreciate the comment about my notes. I didn't know if they were helpful or not !

Very nice galleries
Especially like the Parthenon as it is now [with the scaffolding] shots.

Nauphlion / Mycenae / Epidaurus
A small spelling thing: the letter before the L is a Pi, not a Phi (the a+u makes the af sound)

--Great photos. I haven't been in Greece since my days in the Navy, many years ago. I hope to be able to return someday now that I am retired. Such a great culture and so much to offer as far as photo ops.

I loved seeing the scaffolding. I thought it not only made interesting shots, because of the contrast of the ancient with new, as well as knowng that restoration is ongoing. It was very interesting to me to see the progrress of the restoration over the 4 different times I've been to Greece over the past 20 or so years.

Thanks for looking and for your comments !

Thanks codfish ! I like to put a little commentary on the pictures for those who have no background, but I also don't want to be boring or preachy, or "overkill' with too much.

darkness of your classes LOL!
I don't remember anyone nodding off in my classes thank goodness. :-) I tried to keep it interesting !
were you pleased with the polarizer purchase?
Absolutely ! Did I tell you I returned the B+W regular MRC Cpol for the Kaesemann? For some reason, after using the regular one for a couple of days, it just wasn't cutting it for me, so I decided to go first class. Love the Kaesemann, probably just a psychological difference as opposed to any difference in the physical proporties of the lens, but I had wonderful fun with it in Greece, and am very happy I bought it!

Just thought I'd mention that amazingly, most all the images on my gallery from Mykonos and Santorini were "rescued" by PhotoRescue program. I narrowed it down to a corrupted CF card. The images showed up fine on my camera's LCD, but when I started to download them, there were no pictures there . After a few panicky hours, I tried the trial version of PhotoRescue, which worked flawlessly and pulled all the images up. So I'm just thrilled to have them, even if I did screw up the ISO from the night before !
