OK, this wasn't actually taken with my D80 but with a pocket Sony (4 megapixels) but as I usually use a D80 I thought I'd post it here.

It's a panorama of Edinburgh castle made from 9 handheld shots stiched together with PanoramaPlus. The colour version didn't really work so I B&W-ed it in Lightroom and then added a bit of noise and contrast in Elements. I think it now comes out OK.

Because of the limited functionality there are a few obvious problems with the photo - mainly an overexposed sky, particularly on the right where the sun was. I'm hoping that the greyscale and noise makes it look "old" and therefore (possibly) a bit more acceptable. I'd be glad of all comments and criticisms though...

(Oh, and most of the black dots in the sky are gulls, not dust !)

Thanks for looking,
Chris

Thanks Morris - not much processing really. As I mentioned B&W conversion in Lightroom (OK, maybe a bit heavy with some of the scales !) and a bit of noise and contrast in Elements. I was really trying to rescue shots with essentially "white" sky into a decent picture.

Thanks for the comments though,
Chris

Hmmm, that link worked for all of 5 minutes ! Let's try this one to Flickr:

Thanks
Chris

Nice pano. Whereabouts on Princes St did you take it from? Was thinking a pano from Calton Hill would be great, esp with sunset to west. (i went to Ed uni...)

Thanks - don't really know Edinburgh well enough to say where it was taken from exactly other than "the middle". There's a memorial/statue about half way a long which is just visible on the far right of the picture. I was standing just inside the park off the road by the railings.

I agree about the exposure - it would have been very difficult at that time of day to get it right even with the d80. The sun was coming down on my right, just out of shot and I think almost anything short of different exposures for ground/sky wouldn't have made an appreciable difference (and I didn't have any form of tripod etc. anyway).

I was quite impressed that PanormaPlus managed to merge them all together so well - really effortless.

Thanks for the comments.

Chris... it's a nice pano... but a bit overprocessed and/or dark for my taste. Since you can see people walking in the picture, it seems like a day shot and the street and trees really shouldn't be THAT dark for a b/w conversion.

Also it would be nice to see the structures in the background, they seem to be very interesting... but they are so small it's hard to make them out.

Can you post a bigger version? Something that is at least 2500 px wide. That would only be about 500 px tall.

Thanks for the comments so far... hopefully I've managed to attach a bigger (original) version that it a bit lighter and not so oppressive. There's not really "less" pp-ing done, just "different" - less of the "green filter" turning the trees so dark, not so much darkening in Elements and now a slight touch of sharpening to help with the detail in the houses.
