I get a used A2 and it shows a 'somewhat' pink tinted EVF (not present on LCD), and very low contrast (much less than my A1).

Are these normal ?

My A200's EVF gets a pink cast at fast shutter speeds 1/800, 1/1600 sec outdoors in very bright light conditions. Doesn't show pink in the LCD display or in the captured images even when reviewed using the EVF.
No harm no foul.

Your A200 have should have the same EVF my A1 has.

My A1 EVF shows a lot more colors with more contrast - A2 EVF seems washed out, no color, no contrast.

I really wanted to know if this is normal A2 problem or a specific problem of mine.

Not with my A2...I find it excellent in most respects. The evf swivel action will flex the ribbon wires used to allow movement and they can fail (fatigue fracture) after time and use so you may be seeing early failure? There is a thread that describes a DIY repair...

never noticed 'pink'...pink? I guess it can't be normal.

When 'playing' my fotos in my A2 the outlines of the last viewed still will be visible. I wondered if that is normal as well.

I noticed the pale aspect of the image is mainly related to the angle of view (for an EVF is almost impossible to get another angle...). But if I try to get an 'out of center' view, the contrast increases to a much more acceptable results.

I wonder is there is a chance to tilt the EVF - something like 5º can make a big difference. Maybe the famous (Konica-)Minolta QC as something to do with it...

While this is not a good thing, at least it seems that pictures are good.

ps - just like with the LCD, some angles give you a pale image while others offer you a better image - at least for LCD I can change my angle of view.

I see the exact same thing on my A2 -- the EVF is low contrast with a very "washed out" look. I'm under the impression that this is not a malfunction, but rather a calibration issue for each specific camera. I've seen a handful of A2's, and the EVF's definitely look a bit different from one to the next.

I would think there would be a way of adjusting this somewhere (I picture a trim pot somewhere in the system) but I have been unable to find out about this. I'm tempted to take my camera into a shop and see if they know how to adjust this, but I just never seem to get around to it. Other than this, the camera functions perfectly (and it was free of the "diagonal noise" issue that I've seen in other A2's), so I never ended up digging into this issue.

The bottom line is that it's not just you.

If you do end up solving this, please let us know about it. I'd love to fix this if possible.

Thanks,

Larry

PS. The difference you see when tilting the panel is due to the way LCD's work. It isn't really "fixing" it -- it's just "masking" the issue by artificially increasing the apparent contrast of the image. In other words, even if it appears to look a bit better, you're not seeing a "correct" image when you do this.

I started to have this problem after installing the V1.14 firmware.
The original firmware didn't give me this problem (even if it was
slower in flush the buffer into the CF).

I saw absolutely no change in this regard between the earlier firmware and 1.14. That said, I'm not seeing the "pink" issue -- I only see the low contrast issue, which my A2 has done since it was brand new.

My A2's EVF is very low contrast also, it does help to preserve dynamic range (no doubt the idea) but I prefer a more contrasty view of things, I seem to remember my last one being more contrasty but could be me ..

Looked into this and no - there COULD be a contrast adjustment in the firmware as there is with computer mons but there isn't with the A2's EVF sadly - I've tried polarizing filter gels to see if that helps as colour LCDs use one to display to begin with but no help..

Your A2 isn't faulty anyway regarding the low contrast, as I said, I think they were trying to preserve Dynamic range in viewing (where the A1 etc black out blacks and blow highlights in the EVF all the time) and got a bit too clever for their own good.
