I ordered an Olympus E-510

Thanks, Martin. I know that you will make the right decision and I hope to see you with an OLY soon.
Kind regards,
Joao

Hi Joao,

Thanks for the posts where you shared your questions as you decided which DSLR. I suspect that inside every H series owner there is a DSLR owner wanting to get out! I wish you well with your Oly and I am going to be interested in your experiences as you use it. Do please keep using the H9 as an excuse to keep in touch with STF.

Hi Dan:

Thanks a lot. It will be my privilege to keep posting on this forum and receiving suggestions to improve my photos.
Warm regards,
Joao

Joao,

Congrats on your decision. You did not go wrong with the E-510. It's a really good value and you'll enjoy it. Thank heavens the H9 is superlight so it won't be too much of a burden to carry along with your E-510.

Please give us a link to an online album and let us take a gander at your pictures. We're all here to take better and better pictures, doesn't matter the brand.

I was also looking at the E-510 but opted out because I am trying to simplify my life right now. I have three video cameras that I no longer use because the H-9 shoots good enough video for my needs.

I will, however, venture into the digital SLR market as you have and thus far, looks like the Olympus is the best value. I would love to see how this camera does for you.

Can you be sure to give us a link to your pictures once you start using the camera?

Thanks,
T. L. Rutter
I finally decided to buy a SRL camera and I choose an Olympus E-510
with the two lenses kit. The option for Olympus, besides some
research I have done, represents a come back to an old passion with
Olympus film cameras. I hope to have already the maturity and
skills to start this new adventure and take the advantage of a SLR
camera. Anyway, I am not going to sell or abandon my H9, neither
this Forum, even if it was very sad all the noise we had because or
with the pretext of this camera. I know that there were
alternatives to the Olympus, but I already made a choice for the
best or for the worst.
I will be pleased very much with your comments and suggestions
about this step and, once some of you also have SLR, I will be very
pleased if I can ask questions on this forum about, at least, SLR
in general. It is much easier, since I made already very good
friends here and photographers that are very skilled and always
ready to help.
The Olympus will arrive next week.
My warmest regards to all,
Joao

Hi all,

This is my first time posting in the Sony Forums, so hello everyone.

I currently have a 400D which I've owned for 3 months and I'm seriously considering selling it to get the Oly E-510 Twin lens kit. I'm also going to buy the Sony T-100/ T-20 for my gf and I'd most likely also use it in situations where a DSLR becomes inappropriate.

Is the T-100/ T-20 a good enough P&S to supplement a DSLR? I have no choice other then the above as my gf only likes Sony. I wish I could get my own P&S but my budget is limited.

Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack this thread.

Comments are greatly appreciated.

The T100 is an excellent camera and you'll find it benefits more at social gatherings where you actually socialize!!! Also, if you go out on quick jogs, or you and her get the urge to go on a quick road trip, you and her won't be overwhelmed with carrying around a kit, or having to worry about leaving it in the car to be stolen.

To answer your quality issues, yes it's very good quality and you'll enjoy the colors and ease of use. It's not perfect, but even DSLR's aren't perfect! Just remember that going from a DSLR to a T100, even on a temporary basis, is much like driving a big pick-up truck for weeks, then having to borrow your girlfriend's civic... just remember to treat your T100 like a DSLR... you know, hold it still and steady, proper lighting, adjust the flash, white balance, etc. etc. etc.

Thank you very much, Rutter. I hope to carry both, or one at a time, with one of my smaller cameras. I will accept your suggestion of having a kink to my Olympus Galleries, once I have some.
Kind regards,
Joao

Thank you, Olga. I hope to have your advise on my Olympus photos if you give me your email address. I promise to not do so very often.
Kind regards,
Joao

Did you look at the Pentax K10D, especially with the newer Tamron zooms ?
(For example : The AF18-250mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II LD Aspherical (IF))
If you did, what swung the decision ?

regards,

Ron

Thank you very much Rutter for your response. I think I'll get the T100 instead of the T20 since the price difference is much anyway.

Ron:

Really I did and even tried one for a couple of days. It is a very good camera, but besides my old love affair with Olympus film cameras, the Pentax is too heavy and there is something special with OLY colours that I like a lot.

Joao

about your experience!

This is my current DSLR top option.....the only reason I haven't gotten a Nikon D40 is the lack of live preveiw, which I'm determined not to be without....I think this camera may be my solution.

Combined with a 14-54 and 50-200 pro lens, I've spent about $2200...add a flash and some filters and I'm still under $2500....which for a pro setup would be very reasonable. Thats some excellent glass, and the result is a full range 28-400 equivalent.

Thinking, thinking....

thanks

I love Sony!

Dave:

Please keep thinking for a wile more, because my camera shall arrive this Wednesday. And were I post? how can I transmit my opinions outside the OLY forum? But I have a trade to offer to the more experience ones that also may help me to improve, explaining ways to do better and criticizing my photos. It is to change emails and send them some of my photos.
I also love Sony and will keep posting here my H9 photos.
Best regards,
Joao

Excellent camera & lenses.

Now you may want to consider a 2nd body so you're not always switching a lens & missing that special shot. ;)
Which is why I carry 2 excellent fixed-lens slrs.

Hi Joao,
Congratulations on your new purchase!
I received a Pentax K100D a couple of months (birthday present).
I enjoy it very much with the Sigma 18/200 but the new E-510 is very tempting!

I will have to wait towards the end of the year before I can make any decision though.
Enjoy your new camera and keep in touch.
Cheers.

Your comments and critiques help me improve.

Hi Ben: Thanks a lot. But you also made an excellent choice. How are you enjoying your Pentax? What problems and what benefits?
Kind regards,
Joao
