I finally decided to buy a SRL camera and I choose an Olympus E-510 with the two lenses kit. The option for Olympus, besides some research I have done, represents a come back to an old passion with Olympus film cameras. I hope to have already the maturity and skills to start this new adventure and take the advantage of a SLR camera. Anyway, I am not going to sell or abandon my H9, neither this Forum, even if it was very sad all the noise we had because or with the pretext of this camera. I know that there were alternatives to the Olympus, but I already made a choice for the best or for the worst.

I will be pleased very much with your comments and suggestions about this step and, once some of you also have SLR, I will be very pleased if I can ask questions on this forum about, at least, SLR in general. It is much easier, since I made already very good friends here and photographers that are very skilled and always ready to help.
The Olympus will arrive next week.
My warmest regards to all,
Joao

You'll love the 510, however. I too went Olympus (E330), but will never get rid of my H2 (it's a great eagle camera). I find this forum (STF) much better than the Oly SLR forum...I've posted there a few times, but I guess I'm not known enough to warrant responses? I really like the feedback here, for better or worse!

Olympus E-330

Feel free to comment, critique or PP for educational purposes. If you sell my pics, pls send me my share!

I've also gone the oly route- E-330 - but the stf forum is far more interesting, friendly (except recently!) and helpful.

I only have my T9 as an excuse to lurk now! I couldn't afford to keep my H5 as well, and there are a lot of aspects I miss.

There are some killer features on the E-510, and based on the E-410 review it should be a very solid choice. I just wish they had kept the Tilt lcd and Liveview 'A' as to me, these features are what made the E-330. Still IS is a nice compensation :)

Thanks Neil. I already new you were very happy with your Olympus. So, if I need some support, can I ask you about?
Kind regards,
Joao

Dave: thank you very much for your encouragement. You were always on the first row to explain, to help and to keep this forum civilised and friendly. How can I count on your advise on my Olympus adventure? Concerning the H9, my Maria, we will keep working and posting here. I think it is against the rules to post here Olympus photos; otherwise, this will be my forum for all my photos. Is that so?
Kind regards,
Joao

i'm sure u will love ur decision ........ to walk the DSLR road.

keep posting in STF ......... i do like ur contributions.

cheers MArti

Hi Joao!

I am very jealous at you! Both having the H9 and a dslr camera! I hope, and I'm sure, you will have fun with both of them!

I'm having doubts about the quality of the H9 myself and also thinking about buying a dslr (see the thread a started http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1009&thread=23651682 )

But, for me it will have to wait untill I can buy a dslr, I think next year!

Kind regards,

Suzanne

ps I'm glad you're sticking around this sony-forum!

Thanks, Marty. You know that you are one of the persons that I appreciate most in this forum. I would like to keep having your support, either with the Sony, either with the Olympus camera.
Best regards,
Joao

Susanne: I appreciate very much your work. I read the post where you expressed your doubts/concerns about the H9. To be quite frank, I think you have no reason so far. My decision of purchasing a SLR was already in my mind a long time ago, only waiting to progress more on the use and understanding of digital photography. There is NOTHING related with being unsatisfied with the H9. So far, I am very satisfied with it, even if it is not the perfect camera. But I also have and use a Panasonic TZ3 and a Casio Z850. I post on their forums and like them a lot, each one for it purpose.

So, keep your H9, learn as much as you can how to use it and, when the time comes, buy a SRL. But remember that it is not a panacea for our bad photos.

Just look at Marty, Justin, Alan and so many others and see how great photos they take with P&S cameras. Some of my best ones are from Casio, a little gem.
Most kind regards,
Joao

Hi Joao,

congrats on getting the Olympus. I know what you mean by picking up an old love, I had the same with Canon after years using the in the past.

So I wish you a lot of happy shots with both, the combination is great a small and pocketable powerful system and a bigger more felxible system. I hope you experience the same as I do that it is a perfect complement to eachother.

On my account you are always welcome with questions (I am not sure the forum might be the best place though) but I am sure that you can email the people you mentioned. Yu are always welcome to mail quesions.

a lot of fun wished from

Jeroen

Jeroen: thank you very much. This is not, for all means a goodbye. But you can always use my email and if you give me yours, I will put you my questions.

Thanks again for your support, present and future.
Joao

--If I wasn't investing so heavily into my Canon setup, I would divert some funds to get the 510 and a couple sweet lens for travel. It is a very nice package.

Boy do I hope that the 30D replacement will have "live preview"...

Regards...

Congrats Joao! I hope you'll have a lot of fun with the new gear! I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on an e510 + 11-22 + 14-54 package, just finding it really hard to justify because I have the R1 as well and won't be selling it either way. I just feel it's time to look into building a system again and Oly seems to be it for me, mostly since they seem to be the only ones innovating right now in the right direction, and of course for their superb lenses and light weight as a system.

Looking forward to reading your impressions and seeing some e510 photos. Cheers! :)
