Great portrait, BOB! You printed 16x20?!! How does it look?? What size and format file did you send them? What software do they use to print? Do they use GF or something similar, or they just stretched your photo to the size of the print, or you resized it first?

I have E-10, it makes very sharp 8x10 prints, but I doubt I can get as beautiful 16x20 prints off 4MP image...

QuickMats is a group of actions that work in Photoshop. Its totally automated and very easy to use. I purchased it at the PPANJ convention in Atlantic City. It has all shapes and sizes of predesigned mats and you can create you own using thier templates. Then you can apply a ton of different effects to them. When you print them out and put them in a frame, they looks like real mats, really. The samples they had at the show were awesome. I purchased it right away. Send an email to [email protected] for more info. He has a website: http://www.jhartman.com/quickmats but it doesn't come up.

As for the photograph, I shot it a SHQ 1/2.7 compression. Brought it into Photoshop with Genuine Fractals for retouching. Softened the skin tones with a Gaussian Blur then cropped the file to 16x20 at 225dpi. I then saved it as a jpg, about a 6 meg file when I was done and email it to ezprints.com. The one I sent to them was black and white though. It came back tack sharp. The client loved it. You can do the same with the E-10. A friend of mine has it and he's doing the same.

Thanks

Hey Kiril,

I've taken images straight from the camera to computer to printer, with my E10 and made fantastic 11x14's from my Epson 1270.

You might be surprised with what you can get from your E10. ;o)

Hey Bob,

I tried to check this one out last night, but Pbase was giving me a hard time.

I will say though, it was worth the wait!!!

Someday I'll be able to do portraits this well.

Actually, I think I have a gig this Sunday. Cripes!!! I better get on the stick! :o)

Thanks for all the complements :-)

The black and white version came out excellent, but I personally like the color image better. She was pleased and that's what really matters.--BobT

I mailed off for info on QuickMats. Here is the info for those interested:

Hi, Chris,

Thanks much for your recent e-mail regarding our new software release.
QuickMats is a set of highly realistic-looking digital mats in a wide
variety of sizes and opening shapes that you can quickly customize for each
client to create a unique look for your images. The program consists of a
series of Photoshop files along with a set of Custom Actions, Gradients,
Brushes, Overlays and Textures that greatly speed the production process.

To use QuickMats you open a Mat and your image in Photoshop, resize the
photo and drop it into your mat. The Actions allow you to color the Mat, the
inside Liner of the Mat, as well as add texture and patterns to it. There is
also a series of Actions that allow you to manipulate your image, as well,
with the click of a mouse (such as adding a Watercolor effect, Sepia or pure
B&W, canvas texture, hand tint looks, etc.). When you get the look you want,
simply save and print.

The 112 page full color manual instructs you on using all the QuickMats
features in a step by step, easy to understand format. The instructions have
been created with the Photoshop novice in mind, so that even those new to
digital imaging can be up and running with their first QuickMats image in no
time.

System requirements include Photoshop 5.0 or above, 800MB minimum hard disk
space and 256MB RAM. The CD-ROM is both Windows and Macintosh compatible.

QuickMats retails for $279; however, there is an introductory price of $229
(+ $8 shipping) through the end of March. If you are interested in getting
yours, please feel free to contact my office at 1-800-423-9167. (Or feel
free to write again if you have any other questions). Orders placed before
3:00pm CST will ship the same day.

Thanks again for your interest, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Cordially,

John R. Hartman

PS- attached to this e-mail is a JPEG photo file showing the various uses
and configurations of QuickMats, and what we are currently doing with it at
our studio.

Thanks Chris for posting the QuickMats info. I've been having a blast with it. The matting really enhances the images. One of the nicer pieces of sotware I purchased this year. I can already tell its going to be very profitable.
