Klaus- the thread may not be "hot", but the pictures sure are! I can't wait for warm weather here in Ohio to try some stuff like this. Do you use a tripod or monopod? The pictures are very sharp...

Ulysses, what do you think, what's wrong with my posts - I'm
desperately trying to get a "hot" behind one of my threads ... but
no chance! OK, my English isn't the best (that's why my replies are
usually real short), but are the pics so bad?

Regards Klaus

Hi Klaus:

You photos are very attractive and colorful. Great shots.
... thanks Jade!
Do not be discouraged that not many people responded to your post.
It seems to be the trend recently. Only a few posts by certain
people get a lot of responses from a lot of people. In fact, if
you search the old posts, a lot of threads do not even get a single
response.
.... you're right with that
I posted my shell collection thread and only 2-3 people ever
visited my gallery. I know my photos suck, but I was quite
discouraged. I also shared my findings of F707 ISO settings and I
did not get a single response.
... ... just had a look at your gallery (I've seen it before - I remember your beautiful venus comb) ... your pics DON'T suck :)
BTW: You have a cute little dog!
I just tell myself to keep sharing and not be discouraged.

Hi Mark,

thanks for your compliment!

I didn't use a tripod... all pics are "freehand" shots, but next time I'll use one for sure :) I took approx. 100 shots, many of them were unsharp. For shutter speeds below 1/30 sec you really need a tripod to get good results.

Hot status does not a valuable post make. If hot is all your after then call someone a name or something and watch the posts fly ;-) I don't get many hot threads either, but then I don't initiate many new threads, mostly respond to existing threads and threads with no responses when I can or as the mood strikes me. You just have to post what interests you and as more people associate your name with certain information or photos you will get more activity with time. Very few people are instant successes if you know what I mean. So keep it up, you ave good stuff!--Shay My Sony F707 Gallery: http://shaystephens.com/portfolio.asp

It's not really the "hot status" I'm after. Like every mother (photographer), I'm proud of my childs (pics) and it's frustrating if you don't get any feedback or only a few replies. It's a SONY-FORUM. The most reason why I'm participating is to learn from other photographers, to share pics, to get more familiar with my F707 and to meet some interesting people.

Thank you for the much needed inspiration. This is the truth- I'm
in the middle of painting a Mural on my Bathroom wall. Talk about
bored today! I made the bottom (from the chair rail (?) down) I
painted it to resemble brick with ivy growing up. I was in the
process of going through some books to get an idea for bugs &
butterflies to add to the wall. The top of the wall is an open
window, looking out to a field? I have a couple of birds perched on
the shutter and windowsill. Not you have solved some of my dilema,
the Butterflies. You have filled the void that I needed to fill.
Thank you for your Awesome work. Will you teach me to hypnotize:)
BUGS!! :)

Color.... It's the pigment of your imagination!
Hi Shayron,

I hope we'll see a picture of your bathroom wall here soon!

Regards Klaus

PS: I'm sorry about the late reply but I'm really bussy at the moment ... I have to furnish my new apartment and to paint some walls .... only white color ... no butterflies :)

Klaus,

Thanks for your reply. I needed that verification as I've seen
people writing here all the time that macro works best at wide
angle because it offers a closest distance of 2 cm. Actually that's
not always true. A short focal length macro lens always has shorter
focussing distance than a longer focal length macro but that
doesn't mean greater magnification for the wider angle lens. And
sony states the lens capable of macro work throughout the zoom
range.

As you already have checked that aspect so it appears to be a
shortcoming of the f707 lens . At widest angle and 2 cm distance
how does one avoid barrel distortion and avoid casting a shadow
over the subject. However, looking at your macro results and from
others I've seen, F707 surely does a great job with macro.
Hi A.D.,

... barrel disortion is hardly noticable at this kind of shots. The shadow from the lens is a problem ...very good lighting conditions are necessary ... vertical light works best!

Hi Ulysses,
thanks for your reply. The advantage of a butterfly park is, that
the "objects" don't move :)
What do you mean that they "don't move"? Aren't they very skittish
and shy?
... you can finger (it's not allowed !) the butterflies and they don't move. Some people were really amused, when I touched the wings of the butterflies with my F707 lens :) They couldn't believe the macro capability of the sony.

desperately trying to get a "hot" behind one of my threads ... but

Hahahahah..

No, your English is fine.
... I know this isn't true, but thanks a lot :-)
Your pictures are lovely. I think that is
just the way it is. You don't get nearly as many comments in
threads about the images as you do about the hardware or issues
that may arise.

Maybe if you have specific questions or suggestions about a
particular technique, the challenges you had with a certain subject
or the lighting or camera settings... those things might help.

Sometimes a thread's "hotness" is simply beyond me. :-)
