A very nice gallery, Klaus. You are using the macro capability to good advantage.

I'm going to try to go to a butterflyorium (?) myself sometime later this spring/summer. I don't know if I'll be able to get anywhere as close as you did, though.-- Ulysses

Hi Ulysses,

thanks for your reply. The advantage of a butterfly park is, that the "objects" don't move :)

Ulysses, what do you think, what's wrong with my posts - I'm desperately trying to get a "hot" behind one of my threads ... but no chance! OK, my English isn't the best (that's why my replies are usually real short), but are the pics so bad?

Regards Klaus

What do you mean that they "don't move"? Aren't they very skittish and shy?

Hahahahah..

No, your English is fine. Your pictures are lovely. I think that is just the way it is. You don't get nearly as many comments in threads about the images as you do about the hardware or issues that may arise.

Maybe if you have specific questions or suggestions about a particular technique, the challenges you had with a certain subject or the lighting or camera settings... those things might help.

Sometimes a thread's "hotness" is simply beyond me. :-)-- Ulysses

great macro work. further credits to you for getting so close to them. Isn't the F707 lens capable of close up work at all focal lengths? I've checked my s85 and found that middle of the focal length works best for macro work wrt frame coverage, distortion and allows a larger working distance than the wide end.
How do you guys get so close? Are you using a close-up lens. This
is so beautiful.
Hi reyeslp,

thanks for your reply. No additional lens were used ... the macro
distance is approx. 1 inch!

Hi A.D.,

IMHO the F707 macro mode works best at "wide angle", the closest distance is 2 cm ... I get the best results there. The closest "tele" distance is 90 cm.

Klaus,

Thanks for your reply. I needed that verification as I've seen people writing here all the time that macro works best at wide angle because it offers a closest distance of 2 cm. Actually that's not always true. A short focal length macro lens always has shorter focussing distance than a longer focal length macro but that doesn't mean greater magnification for the wider angle lens. And sony states the lens capable of macro work throughout the zoom range.

As you already have checked that aspect so it appears to be a shortcoming of the f707 lens . At widest angle and 2 cm distance how does one avoid barrel distortion and avoid casting a shadow over the subject. However, looking at your macro results and from others I've seen, F707 surely does a great job with macro.

Thank you for the much needed inspiration. This is the truth- I'm in the middle of painting a Mural on my Bathroom wall. Talk about bored today! I made the bottom (from the chair rail (?) down) I painted it to resemble brick with ivy growing up. I was in the process of going through some books to get an idea for bugs & butterflies to add to the wall. The top of the wall is an open window, looking out to a field? I have a couple of birds perched on the shutter and windowsill. Not you have solved some of my dilema, the Butterflies. You have filled the void that I needed to fill. Thank you for your Awesome work. Will you teach me to hypnotize:) BUGS!! :)

Hi Klaus:

You photos are very attractive and colorful. Great shots.

Do not be discouraged that not many people responded to your post. It seems to be the trend recently. Only a few posts by certain people get a lot of responses from a lot of people. In fact, if you search the old posts, a lot of threads do not even get a single response.

I posted my shell collection thread and only 2-3 people ever visited my gallery. I know my photos suck, but I was quite discouraged. I also shared my findings of F707 ISO settings and I did not get a single response.

I just tell myself to keep sharing and not be discouraged.

Don't be discouraged at all, now. You've had more than your share of starting lengthy threads. Believe it or not, I've also had some real no-shows myself. :)

Keep snappin, and keep postin, less worrying about the numbers in the feedback (Klaus is after "HOT THREAD" status, after all...).

Sometimes it seems that others just aren't sure of what's expected of them when they're simply asked "what do you think?". -- Ulysses
