What happens if you buy all this glass, and find that the camera you really want is not the same???

I sat on the fence for along time before getting this D30. I still carry both camera's around, but I tend to leave the TCON300 at home, cuz the D30 has a 300mm on it.

One of the main reason's I got the D30, I really hated having to disconnect the lipo, put the battery holder in, attach the arm, then the lens, and watch as my subject flew away.

No no no... the body then the lenses. Much might happen in the meantime. If you hope the price will drop, then wait for it to happen first .

You will not be able to use the lenses anyway and that will be utter torture!! You'll be longingly lovingly looking through them and wondering how you could attach them to the E10... Nah it'd drive me nuts.

In view of your indecision (I know its expensive and so scary) I would say wait. Patience is a virtue - which few have.

Good luck--LCD

Here are my options as I see them.

1. Take the plunge and bite the bullet and just be happy!

2. Keep using my Olympus E-20 Equipment and go to my Film Body to get past the limitations of the AF and Buffer write speeds. I have been told by Nikon the AF-S lenses will work on my N70!

3. Keep the Olympus until I get the D1x and try it and see if I like enough to part with my Oly stuff! If I do not like it then I sell it take my losses and chalk it up to experience! If I do like it then I have lost nothing in my opinion.

4. Make a choice between Canon Lenses and Nikons invest in them and then wait for the fallout on the price of the bodies.

5. Do nothing!

The way I see it there is always going to be something new at least every 6 months because basically what we have today is a Body with a computer inside. There is always going to be something faster with more bells and whistles. Lenses are changing somewhat with Image stablization and Nikon finally putting motors in the lens. At this point I do not think more MP's are going to make the difference for a guy like me. So at least that is one down. The difference are write speeds, focus speed, and low light focus. Both the Canon D1 and Nikon D1x offer this with Canon still dealing with banding issues at higher Iso's. I think if we get three years out of a Digital Camera then we are doing very well. Today I found out that if I buy the D1x I have to buy the extra software or else I am limited to JPG's! I wonder at this moment if there is anything else I might have missed?

I got 1 hour left to decide!

I have been reading like crazy! Visiting other forums! Asking
questions and I am on the Edge! I have the opportunity to buy the
D1x and I have the money, but do I really need it? Maybe I am
trying to work through buyers remorse before I buy the camera. In
my mind I am trying to justify the purchase. I have a passion for
photography but I am not a Pro so I do not make a living with my
camera! Am I going to see that much difference in the Photo
Quality! I have always wanted to own a Pro Body and Lenses so is
this enough reason to buy? If I use the AF Super D Tamron 28-200
Nikon Mount lens until I can afford the Genuine Nikon Glass am I am
going to be disappointed? Is the quality with the Tamron lens and
the D1x goning to be lower than the E-20? How long will it be
before prices fall on the D1x and will it hold is value? My
opportunity for my deal ends tommorrow! No finance charge or
payments for 12 months! Can you see my deliema.

Wow. I am so glad I'm not you! The pressure must be UNBEARABLE!!

Gad zooks man. What will you do?? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, what will we do when this thread is over!! :))-- http://www.pbase.com/louverruto/root

Hey Jason,

I'm sure, that if tomorrow you called or whatever this same place, they will make you an offer that is only good for the next 48 hours again, and it will be the same as the one you're worrying about now.

Don't let someone else rush you into anything. Work at your own pace, and all will come to you when ready. :o)

First, thanks to everyone who gave input into this thread and shared their thoughts and helped me think this through. I value your opinions or I would not have posted asking these questions.

Here are the things that influenced my decision!

1. Major Factor I did not consider was weight!
I have had four back surgeries and one of my fusions is in my neck
I did not consider this until I read it in another thread.

2. This Post! I see this as very important!

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1000&message=2341218

3. The fact that I am not a Pro that is dependant on selling my pictures to
support my drug of choice Photography!

4. I realize that the Digital camera is a computer in a body right now and that I should really give it a little more time to see if we level out a little more.

5. Even though money is not the deciding factor for me I have enough sense to realize that prices will drop over time as technology progresses. Just because you might have the money for something at a higher price does not mean you should not put yourself in position to get the best price possible or best value for your money. It also means you should not squander your money. I definately do not fall into the catagory of more money than brains.

Again I thank everyone who has provided input into this thread! Maybe I will sleep a little easier tonight. Buying is easy, living with yourself afterward can be very difficult.( Running away from your wife or girlfriend while she is trying to kick your butt is almost impossible)

My dear Jason,

Buy it! Life is short. Do what makes you happy. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

Life is a cabaret, my friend (I just made that up). Go for it man. The output is scary good. It's a GREAT camera. I'm getting one myself.
Do, it. Live it. AND show us the pix.-- http://www.pbase.com/louverruto/root

The last digital camera you will own? That's highly doubtful unless you're 70 or 80 yrs old with terminable disease (god forgive me if you are). Truth is, digital camera technology improves very quickly...in the same manner as computer hardware and software. If someone asked me if buying a pentium 4 would be their last PC, I would just have to laugh. 6 months from now, the top PC on the market will be 30 to 50% faster for the same money as the current top dog. The curve is flattening out, but it's still climbing! Digital photography will continue to improve...and get cheaper! Don't ever kid yourself about that!
Jason
As far as getting the other camera... if you don't make your living
at it then it would be hard to justify. If you make "some" money
shooting it's borderline. If you just shoot for fun it would
probably be a stretch.

Of course if you have plenty of money then it doesn't really matter
anyhow.

Jason,

Good point about the weight. And there's the Foveon 3x just around the corner. The future is bright.

you will be doing the same that I'm...

I enjoy my e20 and accesories while i wait for technology so settle a little bit. in less than a year you will be able to buy a realy good camera with a relatively good lens for 2k.

And I realy think x3 will be changing everityng, And I want to be part of it, if not in a sigma body probable a canon, nikon body. I am sure good companys will be signing with forevon in the near future.

Just to think in a 6mp x3 cmos mamera.....

Its not that I have plenty of money at all.
...
If investing in the D1x now means that I have arrived at the last
Digital camera I will own then I am all for it.
If that is your criteria: I seriously suggest you refrain from buying the D1x: in a few (2? 3? 5?) years, you'll be able to buy the equivalent (or even better!) for a lot less money.
If it means I am wasting money in the long run then I am against it.
It's not that it's a waste of money: if you need the D1X now, then it's arguably the best tool around. If you can easily spare the money, then the D1X is again the best tool around. If you want to buy it for the long term, or as a lasting investment, well... that definitely sounds like a mistake.

A friend of mine bought a CD player in the really early days for 5000$... today, it still plays CDs but not as well as some of the 300$ CD players around. But, he did have digital sound way before any of the rest of us did.

Though decision, but I'm going to wait a bit longer.
