I did up a quick comparison of ACR and DXO for you to take a look at (Shot was with 1Dmk2N 70-200 F2.8 IS 1/5000 sec F 6.3 ISO 1600) All of DXO's features are turned off so all it does is a Raw Conversion to Tif. In ACR all the detail settings were set to 0 so not to introduce and noise reduction.

Here is the original

I use DXO ( and love it ) so was most interested in the comparison. The Adobe file appears at first glance to have more detail (and certainly more noise) However if you pixel peep, to my eyes at least, they are actually quite similar in detail with the DXO file being cleaner. How can that be if all functions are turned off as you say?
Thanks for the post (even if it is for someone else!)

All I wanted to compare was the actual conversion process. From Raw to Tiff. I always seem to find that certain Raw converters seem tuned for certain cameras and don't give a fair comparison when different Cameras are compared...

I tend to use Capture One as it favours cameras with weak AA filters (basically 1D MK1, 1DS Mk1, 5D in Canon but it also likes the 6Mp bodies and the D30) but for comparing cameras I don't use it any more as it varies the mount of NR for each camera so use ACR for noise comparison tests....

I agree that different converters favour different cameras regarding resolution but noise levels can or at least Should be able to be judged by any 3rd party converter where you can switch the NR off totally (I don't wholly trust Rawshooter and C1 for this aspect)

DPP for converting?

Their latest version has improved NR. I,m using it more and more now.

DPP new version has now Luminance NR in Raw only and Chroma NR. for Tiff and Jpeg. This works for single images now.
