I sent the 5D packing!

But as his credibility is sniking fast, he'll need a new alias.

how about Smallsourgrapes ?

Yep, we're famous for that. Still, your profile stated you live here. Frankly, I don't believe you on that point. Every lager lout coming over for the weekend with Easyjet sees that shop, though most don't buy lenses.

BTW: in another thread you complained Sigma UK wouldn't give you an RMA for faulty lense you wanted to send in. Seems you've had many bad experiences with Sigma.
I just enjoy wasting people's time on here. Please....

As for Amsterdam, don't bother. The Dutch don't even have a word
for customer service is Dutch as it is non-existent over there.

I bought a sigma lens once from a dutch camera shop - the one near
Leidseplein. Never again - returns policy, non existent. I had to
start there in the shop and make a fuss before they would give me
the money back for the faulty lens! And even then they couldn't put
the cash back on the card but had to give it to me in cash, there
and then!

Ridiculous. A pocket stuffed full of 800 Euros. Like, hello!,
that's why they invented the card in the first place!

I would never buy anything equipment in Holland - well over priced
and bad returns. Although Mediamarkt do tell me that I have 21 days
to return any unwanted gifts....so who knows?

Does anyone know?

Performance related pay? Nah, pay related performance!

Just get back from Italy I took with my 5D&grip/35L/135L/17-40L + monfrotto monopod + cards, filters, remote release etc.

Nothing happened to me and nothing got stolen while I took about 1500 shots in one week there. Just insure your things and you will feel free ...

About lenses, camera etc - you are getting best photo equipment for best IQ. You need small and cheap - get PS.

I've shot with my 5D all over the world in lots of dodgy locations in Central Asia, SE Asia, Central America and West Africa. If you're gonna get mugged, having a 5D or not won't make much difference.

but true, I've had a few dud Sigma's.

BTW I'm not sure I understood why I needed to be reminded of that fact - it's a harrowing experience to relive.

And you are correct - large louts don't by SLR lenses. So either:

a) In a drunken mess I stumbled into this forum, registered, and began my mischief

Or,

b) you're wrong, and I'm not a larger lout, and genuinely wasn't happy with the 5D and what it offered for the price.

As the latter is clearly illegal here, I guess I must be option a)

;-)

You can just mail me that big old pesky 5D. I live in NYC and will have no trouble fighting off all those muggers waiting to rob me.

but then if I knew I was going to get mugged I wouldn't go out that day!

So I guess it's what you 'can' lose that has to be taken into consideration - and not the supposedly inevitability of it, which people seem to offer me.

You've been lucky, and I'm happy for you. But camera theft happens a lot - and as I stated, the risk it too great for me.

Basically this is just a lot of people being upset that their risk assessment is different to mine. I'm just so bored at work that I'm more than happy to argue the point - but then there must be something better to do out there, so I'm off to find it!

And maybe take a photo of it as well! ;-)

Theft and damage to your equipment is always a possibility. This is why you take out insurance on your equipment. This is why you take insurance out on your car, your home, your expensive personal items, etc.

But I find it so hard to understand that one would outweigh security over their art. The chances for having a camera stolen or damaged to me is so much smaller than the ability and enjoyment of photography that I wouldn't restrict myself with that. Again, that what insurance is for.

haha

You purchase a 5D, then almost immediately decide you don't want it for a range of mostly sensible reasons, but reasons that would have been understood before you made the purchase - including the actual price!?

Why on earth did you waste your own time and the retailer's time in the first place?

I suspect that most muggers don't know the difference between a 30D
and a 5D.
There might actually more muggers that know the difference than owners that have one dangling around their neck ;-)
(A 1D MkIII and a 5D, yes). You'd probably have as much
of a chance being mugged carrying a 20-yr old Minolta XG-7 in any
neighborhood where you have to worry about your safety. I'd suggest
a disposible film camera for those occassions. It's less
expensivetoo.

but didn't expect other smaller issues (for travel) which when summed up to a whole negates the only one thing he was after.

Good god,
Do you test drive a car before buying ? That costs the same as a 5D
  • so why not?
test drives! That's is why some stores have cameras for you to play with in the store. You bought your camera, took 300 pictures and now expect to get all your money back, but the store cannot sell it as new again. When you test drive a car, you don't pay for it and the car is sold as new again. You are costing the store you bought it from (and possibly Canon) money and passing along higher prices to new buyers because dealers have to deal with people like you who buy and return items without ethics of buying.

You're just like someone who recently said they will order 5 units of the same lens just to pick the sharpest one and send the rest back! Appauling!
