An open CHALLENGE to everyone!

those are ok.

but let's take that first one though. real cliche'. we see that
kind of stuff over and over. it's just so tired.

when it comes to rock formations, let's kick it up a notch...take
it to the next level.

what do you say?

Some really excellent images posted here so far! Here's a sampling from a recent series, a type of subject that the R1 was made for imo... have to give credit to Lightroom too for the post work, the more I use it the more it awes me ;)

Thanks Kellert! Not sure what TJ is... Tijuana? These were actually taken in Lima Peru around 3-4 weeks ago (I'm still here btw). The girl, well, I caught her on a 2nd shot smiling my way, pretty cute looking, unfortunately I only noticed her on my monitor afterwards :( ... not to mention that I've already got a better half anyway ;). Cheers!

When I was on holidays in Canada and drinking rum/coke on the family reunion one of my nieces called to me "Harr, harr, harr there is Capt Morgan" the infamous pirat of the Carribean and we have already a Bill Bootstrap so why not a Capt Morgan ?

i thought there might be something behind that.

did you know that pirates seldom came across jewels in their exploits...that they were really after raw materials like silk, cotton, molasses, etc.

and did you know that, by chance, when they did come across jewels about the last thing they would do is bury it on an island?

these are just some of the myths perpetuated by hollyweird.

i won't even start to touch on the syphilis and gonorrhea problems.

that

it's interesting because i started a thread today about music as it might relate to one's photography http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1018&message=22217047 and the band i was listening to that was "inspiring" me was boards of canada. now look at their album cover art and the similarities to your own image...like, eerie!!

on holiday is the best time for an affair...if you're so inclined. you could have went to her place for a little romp. she probably would have cooked you supper afterwards. if you're still there then you might want to try hanging out at that same place. you might run into her again.

i've never been to peru. isn't there a lot of radical politics and violence going on?

i'm a white guy and i've noticed on several occassion in my travels (especially in asia) that girls would do just about anything to "hook up" with me. i'm not sure if they're looking for a ticket to america or just want a mixed-race baby.

oh well, keep up the good shots.

Hi Kellert,

Thank you for the info, I had looked op the story of Henry Morgan on the internet, but didn't make a study about others and of course I know Holywood is not a reliable source for info. But I must say, the pirat film "The curse of the black pearl" is great, the playing with words is real entertaining. But as you said it showed not the real world of pirats and the time they lived in.

LOL you're pretty much on the mark as far as getting a meal served after a fling, the women here are like that regardless of education or phyical appearance (not a big fan of that mentality though, I'd prefer a more independent thinker who kicks me out after I had my smoke ;)).

The glitch is that I'm not on holidays, I've been here almost 4 years and the girlfriend is here with me... well, plus I'm not into extra-curricular stuff while I'm "taken" (except for some ego-boosting flirting now and then).

Between the time that I arrived here (2003) and now, things have changed considerably, and they've changed a lot overall from the early 90's and onwards. Near the Colombian border there's always conflict between the military and drug lords in the jungle (or political radicals who are usually connected financially with the drug lords). Otherwise, outside of Lima it's safe and friendly. Within Lima there are areas that are not safe to enter but there's less of that with each passing year. Political violence is pretty rare inside Lima, it's thieves and kidnappers you have to watch out for, people who are basically after $$, but as I mentioned, if you know where not to enter, it's not an issue.

Yes and no. It's similar here to your experiences in Asia, many people want to meet a white person just to have a decent chance at leaving the country, but there's an equal amount that are simply attracted to other races physically. I'm not sure on which side of the coin my girlfriend's on but since she's not the one who's worried about where to live I'm going with the latter... at least it's good for my ego to think so ;)

Cheers!
