New pic. Crop 1, Crop 2, Or trash it. Be honest

not a particularly interesting shot - but it could have its uses. Crop one is the way to go IMO.

Thanks Bo

Maybe more interesting to people in this region or maybe just a boring pic. Just trying to decide.
Thanks for the comment

I prefer crop 1. I think it gives the cat tail itself better attention to have that splash of color over to the side. My eye is more easily drawn to the cat tail with crop 1 than when the cat tail is dead center in crop 2.

OBX is one of my most favorite places! In my flickr pictures that is where beach shots were taken...many across from Bodie Island light house, can't remember the name of that beach, but it was gorgeous!

I say that all the time when I am looking at my shots. The more I look at some of them, the more I can find wrong with them. I am learning that if I can try to see the shot for the reason I took it at the time, I can be more creative in PP. A big part of some shots is the emotion of the moment. You don't always capture it, but if you can keep that in mind, it's easier to help bring it out in PP. I once had a painter tell me that every piece of work they have done would be different if they did it again. I feel that if you loose the original emotion, you loose the shot. Obviously you can make huge changes to any picture & there are many ways to look at the same shot & it all depends what kind of work you want to do. I guess the bottom line is, most of the time, if you take the shot you felt something & that means something at some level. I guess that is the process of developing your "style".
BTW I like the crop!

I saw I perfer the 1st crop as it includes some more flowers/plants on the left which adds to the picture, it is shame that there wasn't a more interesting background, e.g., tree, extra plants, etc.

Can I ask what is in the background, sea ?, it looks almost all grey...

I think you had good intentions....

May I suggest a bit of experimenting...try taking a wider view (include more vertically and horizontally, as well as trying both landscape and portrait views) in order to have more to work with when cropping.

Be aware that you will lose lots of the image/data but you are only experimenting. For viewing on the screen or printing small, you only need to have 0.8 mpx or 2.0 mps respectively.

Try cropping without restrictions on the dimensions....for example, such images as your cattails, you may find that a 4" wide by 11" vertical works for you...

Cheers.

I'm really not sure.... BUT if I HAD to pick one... then it would be #1.

It'd be more insteresting if they were corn dogs!!
