*** CTF Mini Challenge 134 - In Motion

Thanks for three beautiful pictures, Patsy. My favorite is #1, clean composition and you captured this moment so well.

Thanks SueAnne, Wertdinger n Patricia.

Well, it was like a company outing back then with my office peps. So, this was during the games session.. I don't quite remember why they look so happy n pushing each other like kids hehe.. but possible they just won one of the group games OR, another games just started and they're rushing hehe.. just happy :o) I'm glad I can capture this on time, not too blur but I think it would be nice if I can get a freeze one. Thanks again and I'll find another 2 :o)

Hello Bryan,

My son shot that shot (not me) For the life of me, it makes me dizzy looking at it and at the time Josh was shooting that, a CTF challenge was going on at the time that was 'A view from above'
see this shot http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge/image/66184516
that reminds me alot of son's shot. (but he didn't know anything of this then)

Josh told me, he looked at the tree and turned the camera in a circular effect giving a pano circular effect.
Exif info is 1/160s f/5.6 at 7.8mm Landscape mode

so with this in mind, I tried it this morning on the A80
and not as good, I got this
1/13s P mode f/2.8 at 7.8mm

and then this
Tv mode 1/3s f/7.1 at 7.8mm

Well you get the idea :)

Sometimes it takes a younger mind to show me, older mind - to try something different and experiment more ;)

See if you can try it - it might be fun - circular panning ;0
(post your results - I'd be interested to see)

Hi sueanne,

That third shot is really amazing. I've never seen something like
that before. How did you make that shot?

Thank you Jim,
I think I should make #3 a poster and hang it in my son's room :)

Thank you Wertdinger :)

Funny sledding, indeed. The snow shows a lot of texture, good WB
and exposure. #2 is so funny. You mixed blur and sharpness very
well. #3 is an unique interpretation of motion, made me dizzy,
Josh. Thanks for three great entries, sue anne.

  1. 3 is great - now curious what is the EXIF for that - which mode did you set that in. I feel the speed of the train. ;)

Thanks, sueanne, for the tips and the explanation. I will definitely try that technique in the coming days ahead, and if I get somewhat good results, I'll post them. Have a photo-great-phic weekend. ( I just made that word up, but it sounds pretty good.) :o)

The first one is very nicely captured in take off.

Beerguy,

I really like the 2nd picture of the silhouettes on the beach. Not the most obvious motion picture but a great shot and lovely light.

...I like the "ghost" effect. About how long of an exposure do you
suppose that was? I want to try some of that myself.
Patsy,

The exposure was 1/8 sec at f/8. I was shooting the sunrise on Lake Ontario, and these people walked through the scene. At first I was annoyed, then I saw the composition as they walked through and snapped one shot. Just as I released the shutter, the last person jumped across the water. A totally unplanned shot. (It wound up winning me a ribbon in a competition.)

I am glad that this doesnt include panning as I have not been successful at it at all. A couple of shots that I hope capture the feeling of motion.

The first is my daughter after she first learned how to do a somersault on the trampoline. How she ended-up on her feet I am not sure!

The second is of Spike the Jack Russell trying to snatch its toy.
